Gordon G. Polster, age 93, formerly of New Holstein and currently a resident of Atrium Post Acute Care, Chilton died peacefully Wednesday morning, March 23, 2016. Gordon was born on February 18, 1923 in the Town of Russell, son of the late Louis and Catherine (Schuler) Polster. He graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1942. After high school Gordon joined the Navy during WWII. When he was discharged from the Navy he returned to New Holstein and was employed at Arps Corporation (Ameriquip) for 40 years. On February 3, 1951 he married the former Serena Weber at St. Mary's Church in Marytown. Gordon and Serena resided and raised their 3 children in New Holstein. They recently celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary. During their married life Gordon and Serena did a good deal of traveling and had visited 48 states over the years. Gordon was an active member of the New Holstein American Legion Post 124 for 69 years serving in the rolls of Post Commander, Membership Chairman, Firing Squad member and Chaplain. For many years Gordon and his good friend Ollie Greuel decorated many veterans' graves with flags for Memorial Day services. On June 9, 2011 Gordon had the privilege to be a member on the Honor Flight out of Appleton, WI. It was a trip he enjoyed along with another friend Chuck Burg. Gordon was a member of the New Holstein Volunteer Fire Department for 21 years and received the Fire Fighter of the year award in 1978. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Chilton. Gordon enjoyed woodworking and he learned the art of caning chairs, he also enjoyed traveling, listening to Polka Music and putting together jigsaw puzzles while watching the Brewers, Bucks, Packers and Badgers; he loved them all. Gordon was a member of St. John's UCC Church in New Holstein where he served as an usher for many years. Survivors include his wife Serena; two sons David (Sue) Polster of West Bend, Steve Polster and special friend (Joan Pagel) of Sturgeon Bay; one daughter Laurie (Mike) Kutz of New Holstein; seven grandchildren Stacy (Bill) Noreika, Christopher Polster, Nichole Polster, Cathy Polster, Connie Polster, Sarah Kutz and Kevin Kutz; three great grandsons, Isaac, Liam and Mitchell. He is also survived by two brothers Henry (Joyce) Polster of Kiel, Clarence (Barb) Polster of Sheboygan Falls, and one sister Kathleen Otto of Kiel; three sisters-in-law, Janet Polster of Howards Grove, Loanne Polster of Cleveland and Elaine Weber of Marytown and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws Frank and Frances Weber; 2 sisters Adeline (Walter) Wagner and Marian (Clarence) Wagner; 5 brothers Allan (Yvonne) Polster, DeLyle Polster, Louis Polster, James Polster and infant brother Paul; 2 brothers-in-law Robert (Peggy) Weber and Roger Weber; two sisters-in-law Sidonia (Ernest) Heus and Judith Polster; 2 nephews and 1 niece. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at St. John United Church of Christ, 2111 Church Street New Holstein, WI 53061. Rev. James Werner, Pastor, will officiate. Military Rites conducted by the Naval Military Honors and the New Holstein American Legion Post 124 will take place at the church following the service. Interment will take place at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum in Manitowoc. Visitation: Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue New Holstein, WI on Monday, March 28th from 3:00 - 8:00 pm. Visitation will also be at St. John Church on Tuesday morning from 9:00 – 9:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Gordon's name.
