Gregor "Hoopie" J. Schwarz, 89, formerly of W1470 Fur Farm Road New Holstein died Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Homestead Care Center in New Holstein where he's resided since February 2007.
He was born May 31, 1920 in the Town of New Holstein to the late John & Josephine Mueller Schwarz. Gregor attended Holy Rosary Catholic Grade School.
On May 6, 1947 he married Genrose Schmitz at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. Gregor farmed in the Town of New Holstein all his life. He also worked for the Town of New Holstein for many years.
Gregor enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, watching the Chicago Cubs and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gregor was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein and the Holy Name Society.
He is survived by three sons, Gordon (JoAnn) Schwarz, John Schwarz and Gregory (Cathy) Schwarz all of New Holstein; three daughters, Mary (Duane) Haensgen of New Holstein, Rose (Terry) Wehse of Plymouth and Kristine (Luke) Vander Velde of Elcho, WI; 14 grandchildren, Michael and Jennifer Schwarz, Robert, Melissa and Charles Schwarz, Pamela, Gregory and Steven Schwarz, Jason and Amber Haensgen, Ryan and Samantha Wehse and Evan and Brooke Vander Velde; five great-grandchildren; his sister, Rose Rabe of New Holstein; a brother-in-law, Fritz Herr of Osman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a great-granddaughter, Emma Schwarz; three brothers, Sylvester, Sigmund and Clarence and four sisters, Edvina, Romilda, Marion and Arlene.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday March 26, 2010 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 1724 Madison Street New Holstein. Rev. Harold Berryman will officiate. Entombment will be at the Knollwood Mausoleum in Manitowoc.
Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Avenue in New Holstein on Thursday March 25th from 4-7:30 PM and at the funeral home Friday morning from 10-11 AM when brief family rites will be held.
A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Thursday evening at 7:30 PM.
A Memorial Fund will be established in his name.
