Obituary

Helen Paula Olig, 97 of New Holstein passed away peacefully on January 12, 2021 at Caring Hands Assisted Living in New Holstein with family by her side. She was born on September 12, 1923 in Fond du Lac County, the daughter of Edwin and Pauline (Burg) Knaus. After graduating from New Holstein High School, Helen attended a business college in Milwaukee where she worked for several years. Later while raising the family, she helped farm and worked at Tecumseh until retiring in 1986. She was then actively involved in the Union and senior activities including the Eagles. Helen was a member of Holy Rosary Parish in New Holstein. She enjoyed watching the Brewers and Packers, as well as gardening, sewing, baking, and watching the birds. It brought her great joy to play cards with her grandchildren and in later years her great grandchildren. She was also actively involved with numerous card clubs. She is survived by her children Sandra (Frank) Hock, Joan (Frank) Boll, Jane (Alvin) Buechel, Donna (Leonard) Buechel, John (Anna) Olig and daughter-in-law, Janice Olig, 19 grandchildren, and 36 great grandchildren. Her surviving siblings include Anna Mae Schwarz, James Knaus and friend Sandy, and Carol Schneider, sisters-in-law are Virginia Eiring and Marjorie Kasper. Helen Paula was preceded in death by a daughter Julie, son Steve, sisters and brothers-in-law Zelda (Cyril) Blonigan, Rosebelle (Gregory) Klinzing, Virginia (Vince) Demshar, Serena (Roman) Quackenboss, Martina (Donald) Steffes, Florian Schwarz, Leo Schneider, sister-in-law Delores Knaus, Elmer (Techla) Olig, Arlene (Emil) Feldner, Ray Eiring and Clement Kasper. Special thanks to Jeanne and the staff at Caring Hands and Calumet County Hospice, especially Gina Boll for their special outstanding care given to our mother. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Helen's name at Calumet County Hospice and St. Lawrence Seminary, Mt. Calvary.
