Herbert "Herbie" "Herb"
Pickart
Nov 22, 1942 — Apr 1, 2024
Herbert "Herbie", "Herb", Pickart, 81, passed away Monday, April 1, 2024, at SSM St. Agnes Hospital following complications after hip surgery.
He was born November 22, 1942, the son of Albert and Mildred (Engel) Pickart. He graduated from New Holstein High School.
Herb was drafted by the army where he served two tours in Vietnam and was honorably discharged as a sergeant.
On August 3, 1968, he married Connie Bertram at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Peter.
He devoted his career to dairy farming and later on cash cropping in rural Mt. Calvary. He believed that as the population continued to grow, the world would run out of farmland and would not be able to feed its population, thus making the success of the Holyland Food Pantry his mission in retirement. Whether he donated time, food, or money, it was important to him that no one be hungry.
Herb was an active member of Our Lady of the Holyland Parish. He served on the New Holstein School Board, Town of Marshfield Road Crew, St. Anthony Society, Cemetery Committee, and anything else the Church needed him for. Herb was also a member of the American Legion Abler-Engel Post 454 and VFW.
He did whatever possible for whomever asked for his help. Outside of farming, Herb enjoyed playing cards, reading, listening to polkas, and making new friends. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who will always remember his whisker rubs, four-wheeler/feed cart/tractor rides, and his hard-earned pride for his service to our country. We will all remember that whenever a project he was working on came together it was "Just like downtown Pulaski''.
Herb's legacy will live on with his wife of 55 years Connie; their children, Lisa (Michael) Reichert, Ann Marie (Gary) Lau, Daniel (Danie) Pickart and David Pickart; his grandchildren, Michael (Andrea) and Jacob Lau, Alaina and Isabella Reichert, Conner and Hailey Pickart, Jarred (Cassey) Grimes; and his Great-Grandchild Leo. He is further survived by his brothers Harold "Chip" (Joanne) Pickart and John (Shirley) Pickart; his sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Sandy (Jerry) Binotto, Allen (Rose) Bertram, Steve (Jackie) Bertram, Mark (Judy) Bertram and Lynn (John) Wehner; many nieces; nephews; friends; and neighbors.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Albert & Mildred Pickart and his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Henry and Julitta Bertram.
A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-Holy Cross Site, 308 S. County Highway W, Mount Calvary, WI 53057. Rev. Paul Koenig, OFM Cap and Rev. Michael Bertram, OFM Cap will concelebrate.
Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Herbie's family at the church in Mount Calvary from 12:00 Noon until 3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 10th.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the family for the Holyland Food Pantry or the Alzheimer's Association.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to his compassionate caregivers at The Snug Unit and all Harbor Haven Health and Rehabilitation staff. We would be remiss if we did not thank SSM St. Agnes Dr. Amena Nazeer and the 4th floor team, and SSM Hospice for their compassionate care of Herb and his family in his last days. A special thank you to Fr. Paul Koenig and Sr. Jenada Fanetti for their many caring and comforting visits.
