Herman Joseph Hartman, age 91, formerly of the Town of New Holstein, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014, at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center in Plymouth. He was born July 12, 1922, the second oldest of 13 children born of the late Edward Sr. & Elizabeth (Dorn) Hartmann. Herman attended St. Anna Catholic School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from January 21, 1943 until March 25, 1946. As a Medical Aid man, Herman assisted in the care of wounded patients. Later, he served as a cook in the mess hall preparing meals for 2,000 men. He was awarded the Meritorious Unit Service Plaque and the World War II Victory Medal. After serving his country, he returned to the Hartmann homestead where he farmed until his retirement. He was a member of St. Anna Catholic Church in St. Ann. Survivors include his siblings and their spouses, Sr. Mary Edward of Clyde, Missouri, Frank (Loretta) Hartmann of Kaukauna, Al (Pat) Hartmann of Kiel, Fred (Gladys) Hartmann of Plymouth, Adam (Anita) Hartmann of Menomonee Falls, Sr. Therese of Green Bay, Ann (Gervase) Meyers of Chilton, and Hugo (Delores) Hartmann of Kiel; his sister-in-law, Mutzie Hartmann of New Holstein; numerous nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; cousins; other relatives; and many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Edward Sr. & Elizabeth Hartmann; four siblings, Sr. Mary Monica, George Hartmann, Sr. Mary John, and Ed Hartmann; his sister-in-law, Patricia Hartmann; and a niece, Lynn Gischia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at St. Anna Catholic Church N188 School Street New Holstein, Wisconsin 53061 "St. Ann". Rev. Harold Berryman will officiate will Parish Director, Joe Zenk assisting. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the New Holstein American Legion Post 124, will take place in the parish cemetery.
