Hortense M. Sippel, 97, of Mount Calvary died peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday March 28, 2010 at the Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.
The former Hortense Schaefer was born October 28, 1912 in St. Cloud to the late William & Antonia Dreifuerst Schaefer. She graduated from St. Claudius Catholic Grade School in St. Cloud.
On May 27, 1936 she married Leander Sippel at St. Cloud Catholic Church. They farmed together until her husband's retirement in 1982. In 1986, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Leander preceded her in death on April 27, 1994.
Hortense was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary and the Christian Women's Society. She enjoyed traveling, reading, dancing and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her five children, Janet (Lloyd) Fellenz of Eden, Don (Dianne) Sippel of St. Cloud, Gene (Margie) Sippel of Mount Calvary, Ruth (Jim) Emmer of St. Cloud and Joanie Goebel of Dotyville; her daughter-in-law, Ginny (Mark) Petrie of St. Cloud; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; 2 great-great grandchildren and her brother, Joseph (Ann) Schaefer of Glenbeulah.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Leander; two sons, Paul & Bob Sippel; a granddaughter, Teresa Loehr; two sons-in-law, Dick Goebel and Jerry Loehr; a brother, Leonard Schaefer and a sister, Hazel Wettstein.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday April 5, 2010 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 308 County Road W in Mount Calvary. Rev. Steven Kropp OFM Cap. will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street in St. Cloud, on Sunday April 4, 2010 from 3-8 PM and at the funeral home Monday morning from 9-10:30 AM when brief family rites will be held.
A prayer service will be held at 8:00 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home.
