Hugo Zutz

April 3, 1931 — September 12, 2018

Hugo Zutz, age 87, of Brillion, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 12, 2018. He was born on April 3, 1931, son of the late Hugo and Almira (Behnke) Zutz.  Hugo held leadership positions with the Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America and the Lutheran Hour Ministry. He served as president of the Data Processing Society. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Lutheran Church Missouri Synod for over 50 years, where he served as president, secretary, treasurer and elder of the church. He served with distinction in the Army Reserves after WW II. Hugo worked at the Brillion Iron Works for over 40 years, where he supervised changes in  data processing and the implementation of computers from punch cards, to the main frame computers, to the much smaller personal computers. Hugo, before raising a family, played a mean trumpet in a popular dance band which traveled throughout the region. He loved to go camping with his family, pulling a pop up camper behind the Ford LTD wagon with the faux wood side panels, as he drove to Williamsburg, the Land of Lincoln, Mammoth Cave, the Smoky Mountains, Washington D.C., the Badlands, Devil’s Tower, Yellowstone and closer to home, numerous weekend outings to Kettle Moraine and Two Rivers State Parks. When not on the road, Hugo, in his later years, listened to and regularly watched the Brewers, Packers and Badger games on television. He was continually supportive of his four boys as they participated in a variety of activities in their school years and beyond. His face lit up with a broad smile each time he was able to visit with his seven grandchildren and his one great grandson.  Later in life, he enjoyed bicycling, cross country skiing, relaxing and spending time with family at his lake place on Mary Lake. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Joan, his sons, Randall (Susan) Zutz, Jeff (Sarah) Zutz, Greg Zutz and Betsy Rock-Zutz and Peter Zutz, his grandchildren, Alice (Alex) Gonzalez, Clare Zutz, Aaron, Amelia and Andrew Zutz, Adam and Maria Zutz and great grandson Rhone Gonzalez. a sister Betty (David) Karr and many nieces and nephews. Hugo was preceded in death b y his parents and a sister and brother-in-law, Valeria and Milton Vallesky.  Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Lutheran Church in Brillion. The Rev. Mark Krueger will officiate. Burial will be in the Brillion Community Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Saturday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service. Memorial gifts can be shared with the American Heart Association, Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran Bible Translators and St. Bartholomew Lutheran Church.
