Obituary

Irene Mattice, age 88, of Mount Calvary, formerly of Theresa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the home of her granddaughter, Charissa, on Monday, September 19, 2016. She was born November 29, 1927, a child of eight born of John & Fedosia (Gavrilik) Rogga. On May 20, 1970, she married Harold Frank Mattice. Harold preceded her in death on October 3, 2010. Irene was always in the kitchen because of her love for cooking and baking. She enjoyed walking to downtown West Allis to enjoy a fairy food from Quality Candy since she never obtained a drivers license. She LOVED her cats and had many over the years. Irene also enjoyed flowers and watching birds throughout the seasons. Most recently, she came to love cream puffs, gummy candy and a love for watching "The Walking Dead" marathons. Irene collected angel and cherub figurines; always displaying them throughout her home. To those who knew Irene well, there was no mistaking her feisty personality, but she had a heart of gold. Survivors include her five children, Christine M. Van Etta, John M. (Barbara) Van Etta, David D. Dubiski (Kim McGee), Judith A. Mattice, and Jamie L. (Heidi) Mattice; her grandchildren, Jason (Beth) Marquardt, Charissa Marquardt (Christopher Walber), Wendi (Nick) Zagorski, Cathi (Mike) Mitten, Debbie Dubiski, Michael (Nadra) Van Etta, Andrea (Jon) Blicharz, Matthew (Toni) Van Etta, Jamie (Amber) Mattice and Megan Mattice; great-grandchildren, Kendall Marquardt, Alyssa Zagorski, Nicholas Zagorski, Mia Zagorski, Hunter Lyman, Marcus Schmidt, Noah Wickey, Gabriel Wickey, Phoebe Wickey, Olivia Blicharz, Morgan Van Etta, Amanda Van Etta, Samantha Van Etta and Ophelia Van Etta; nieces and nephews, Barbara (Donald) Matter, Sandra (Terry) Gissal and Mark Vesprakas as well as other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, John & Fedosia Rogga, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Mattice; and brothers and sisters, Anastasia "Nettie" (Ulrich) Essmann, Tina (Stanley) Ambroziak, Carl Binvosky, Nicholas Binvosky, Vera (Frank) Vesprakas, John Rogga and Corrine (Emmet) Heidemann. Irene came to know a very special friend, Pam Entringer, who comforted her over the years. To Pam, she was her "Grammy". A Celebration of Irene's life will begin at 4:00 PM Saturday, October 1, 2016, in Theresa, Wisconsin at the Community Center at River Hills Park, also known as "The Barn", 100 Kelly Blvd. Theresa, Wisconsin 53091 (the barn is located at the beginning of the park across the street from the park office). Food, refreshments and laughter will be provided; Irene loved to laugh as well as eat so she wouldn't have it any other way.
