James A. Schneider, 90, of rural St. Cloud, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on Sunday, April 29, 2018. Jim was born August 2, 1927 on the family farm in the Town of Forest to John and Elnor Schneider. He attended Elder Grove Grade School in St. Cloud. He served in World War II and was stationed in Florida with Army Air Transport Command. On September 8, 1948, he married Leora Winter. After the loss of his first wife July 30, 1967, he married Loraine F Johnson (Becker) on September 11, 1970. Jim was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. A farmer through and through, he was always interested in what was happening in farm fields and would often walk the fields himself to check things out. Earlier in his adult life, he worked at a canning factory and drove school bus for 17 years. After his retirement from day to day farming, Loraine and Jim traveled extensively around the country. He was a lifetime member of Campbellsport FFA Alumni, long-time member of Fond du Lac County Farm Bureau, and was very active in other farm cooperatives. He served on many boards and as a delegate for meetings, always advocating for the farmer members and for the future agriculture. For many years he volunteered as the Farm Bureau fruit sale chairperson, worked at the county fair food stand and many FFA Alumni events. He most loved spending time with family, holding the babies and feeding them ice cream or mashed potatoes when the opportunity arose. He looked forward to playing sheepshead with family and friends. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, tinkering in his shed and was an expert at picking out hickory nuts for family and friends. Those Jim leaves behind to cherish his memory includes his wife, Loraine; five children and three step-children; son, Leo (Mary) Schneider of Sheboygan, daughter, Kathy Zimbal of Sheboygan Falls, son, Nick (Janet) Schneider of St. Cloud, daughter, Karen (Dale) Kraus of Malone and daughter, Mary (Steve) Kuipers of Columbus, step-daughter, Diane Johnson of New Port Richie, FL; step-daughter, Donna (Frank) Radetski of Tarpon Springs, FL, step-son, Tom (Rhonda) Johnson of Tarpon Springs, FL; 19 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Harvey Schneider and Henry Schneider; and sister, Mary Ann Wettstein and in-laws; Theodore Becker, Gordon and Marian Becker, Ione Biemborn/Christopher (Becker), Carl and Janice Becker. Jim is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws; his first wife, Leora Schneider; his infant son Mark; grandchildren Lisa and Brian Zimbal, Leora Schneider, Andy Radetski and Samantha Arnold; son in-laws Jerry Zimbal and Ed Swick; sister in-laws Henrietta Schneider, Lorraine Schneider, Minnie Becker, Phillis Becker, and Arlene Becker; brother in-laws Alton Becker, Leroy Becker, and Charlie Christopher. At Jim's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. If you wish to honor Jim please consider a donation to the Campbellsport FFA Alumni Scholarship fund or the Pat and Marilyn O'Brien Scholarship fund, both organizations Jim believed in strongly. The family requests to please refrain from sending flowers. After cremation he will be laid to rest in the St. Cloud Parish Cemetery. Jim's family would like to express their heart-felt appreciation to the staff at Villa Loretto for the wonderful care and compassion given to him.
