James "Jim" O. Horn
James "Jim" O. Horn, 72, of St. Cloud died early Friday morning December 25, 2009 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac following a 5 year struggle with cancer.
He was born April 28, 1937 at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan to the late Erwin & Florentine "Tina" Hochrein Horn. Jim attended St. Cloud Catholic Grade School and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1956.
Jim served in the Army from 1956-1958. On August 26, 1961 he married Shirley Abler at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary. He owned Horn Tile Co. in St. Cloud until 1985 and had been a substitute rural mail carrier for the Malone post office for 23 years retiring March 7, 2008.
He was a member of St. Cloud Catholic Church, a former member of the St. Cloud Fire Department, the St. Cloud Athletic Club and Riverside Hunting and Fishing Club. Jim had also been a Registered WIAA umpire and referee for high school football, basketball and baseball for 30+ years. Among the other hobbies, he enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, gardening and raising turtles.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Horn of St. Cloud; 4 children, Lynn Franzen and her fiancé Gregg Zimmermann of Fond du Lac, Cheri Roepke and her fiancé Michael Kroener of St. Cloud, Jamie (Paul) Ausloos of Elkhart Lake and Don Horn and his fiancé Tammy Otto of Verona; 8 grandchildren, Jenny & Justin Franzen, Blake & Kain Roepke, Adam & Kyle Kroener, Brett Zimmermann and Cody Otto; his sister, Charlene "Char" (Al) Muehlhausen of Le Sueur, MN; his son-in-law, Matt Franzen of St. Cloud; 3 brothers-in-law, Richard (Barbara) Abler of Columbus, OH, Russell (Bernice) Abler of Mount Calvary and Robert (Joan) Abler of Mount Calvary; nieces and nephews; fishing buddy, Gene Rieder and special neighbors, Jay & Lisa.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother, John "Honus" Horn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday December 28, 2009 at St. Cloud Catholic Church 924 Main Street St. Cloud. Rev. Steven Kropp OFM Cap. will officiate. Cremation will follow traditional services with inurnment taking place in the parish cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 1311 Thorp Street St. Cloud on Sunday December 27th from 3-8 PM and again Monday morning from 9-10 AM when brief family rites will be held.
A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Sunday evening at 7:45 PM.
