James "Jake" W. Kandler, age 83, of New Holstein, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020, following a lengthy battle with Dementia. He was born May 1, 1937, in New Holstein to Gilbert & Edna (Maile) Kandler. He attended school in New Holstein and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1956. Jake enlisted in the US Army in 1957 and served until 1960. He was stationed in Texas and Germany where he served as tank mechanic for General Patton's 4th Armored Division. On May 2, 1964, he married Sandra "Sandy" Seyfert at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein; Sandy preceded him in death on October 28, 2013. Jake had worked most of his career at Tecumseh Engine Products in New Holstein until his retirement. He also drove school bus for Daun Transportaion. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein, the New Holstein American Legion Post 124, the VFW Post 3153 in Chilton, and the Disabled American Veterans. Jake was extremely proud to share his stories of his time serving in the Army. He loved to listen to country music, traveling with his wife, watching his beloved Green Bay Packers (he was a season ticket holder), communicating with birds, especially cardinals, with his vocal abilities, and spending time with his grandkids. Survivors include his two children, Kevin Kandler of Chilton and Kris (Scott "Barney") Bonlander of New Holstein; two grandchildren, Kayleigh & Devin Bonlander; his brother, William (Mary) Kandler of New Holstein; his sister-in-law, Susan Seyfert (Roger Goodwin) of Madison; his brothers-in-law, Lawrence (Bobbie) Seyfert of South Byron and James Holz of Oakfield. He is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Gilbert & Edna Kandler; his wife, Sandy; three infant children, Tim, Tom, and Cynthia; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Herman & Florence Seyfert; step father-in-law, Edward Seyfert; his sister & brother-in-law, Shirley (Brian) Carey; his sisters-in-law, Judith Westphal and Katherine Holz; and his brother-in-law, Gerald "Jerry" Seyfert. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1702 Van Buren Street, New Holstein, WI 53061. Rev. Azor Cigelski will preside. Military Rites conducted by the New Holstein American Legion Post 124 will take place at the church following the service. Jake will be laid to rest next to his wife in the New Holstein Cemetery following the Military Rites.
