Obituary

James T. Petrie, age 86, of New Holstein, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Thursday, August 18, 2022. He was born March 7, 1936, to Bernard & Dorothy (Schumacher) Petrie. Jim graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1954. He served in the US Army from 1956 until 1958 stationed in Germany. On September 17, 1960, he married Virginia Gray at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Stockbridge. Virginia preceded him in death on March 18, 2016. Jim was employed with the former Tecumseh Engine Products in New Holstein for 37 years. In addition, he owned and operated a small engine repair business, as well as serving as the Town of New Holstein Treasurer for 17 years. After retirement, Jim was employed by Calumet County as a field surveyor, took the role as municipal judge with the City of New Holstein, as well as serving as an alderman with the City of New Holstein. Jim was very community service minded; he served on the New Holstein School Board, was a 4-H Leader, coached youth baseball, volunteered and served as president at the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, and volunteered with his wife, Ginny, at the Salvatorian Center in New Holstein. In his free time, he enjoyed travelling with his wife; especially to Florida to spend the winter months. He also enjoyed fishing, playing sheepshead, and watching Wisconsin sports. He enjoyed putting his handyman expertise to use by helping his children and grandchildren. Jim was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where he served as an usher, lector, and communion distributor. He also served on various committees with the church which was a testament to his faith. Survivors include his three children, his son, Chuck (Beth) Petrie of Hilbert and their children, Tiffany Petrie and Nicole (Gavin) Wallander, his son, Rich (Joan) Petrie of Malone and their children, Bryant Petrie (fiancée, Kirsten) and Travis Petrie, his son, Tim (Penny) Petrie of New Holstein and their children, Olivia Petrie, Zach Petrie, and Evan Petrie, his daughter-in-law, Lori Petrie of Plymouth and her children, Mickenzie (Zach) Rust and Brady Petrie. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Joan Petrie of Kimberly; nieces; nephews, and friends. Preceding him in death were his wife, Ginny; his son, Jeff Petrie; his parents, Ben & Dorothy Petrie; his two brothers, Frank (Ann) Petrie and Dave Petrie; and two sisters, Lucy (Gene) Schwarz and Katie (Hugh) Goggins; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Edgar & Theresa Gray; and his brother-in-law, John Gray. A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Friday, August 26, 2022, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison Street, New Holstein, WI 53061. Rev. Alvan Amadi will officiate. Jim will be laid to rest next to his wife, Ginny, in the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Jim's family from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 25th at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue, New Holstein, WI 53061. Visitation will also be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Friday morning, August 26th from 9:30 AM until 10:15 AM. A memorial fund will be established in his name.
