James Meyers

James Meyers, age 81 of Potter, died on Wednesday November 22, 2017 following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on March 9, 1936 in Chilton, son of the late Claude and Lorena (Hoerth) Meyers. He was a graduate of Hilbert High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. On April 26, 1958, Jim married Sandy Duchow in Potter. He served as Post Master in Potter from 1960 to 1992. He also owned and operated Meyers Sales and Service in Potter from 1962 to 2009 and was co-owner of Potter Sports, a Polaris Dealership, from 1968 to 1980. Jim loved to go fishing and go on his family vacations to Shawano. He enjoyed playing sheepshead with his Wednesday morning friends and was a pitcher in the Over 40 Potter softball league. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert and was very active in his community. He served as Potter Village President, served 28 years on the Potter Fire Department, he was a charter member of the Potter Community Assoc. the Potter Clowns, Hilbert School Board and was a charter member of the Calumet County Civic Organization. Survivors include his wife Sandy, his children, Kim (Dwight) Campnell, Russell (Anna) Meyers, Lisa Meyers, Phil (Cheryl) Meyers, Gary (Jill) Meyers, Denise (Cory) Smith, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, a brother Don Meyers, a sister Sandy (Clarence) Krueger, father-in-law Win Kasper, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carol Wenzel, Geri (Bob) Ones, Donna (Jim) Kilgas, Stu (Kathy) Duchow and Penny Steinke, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Preceding Jim in death were his parents, 2 brothers, Jerome and Claude Jr. a sister-in-law Sandi Meyers, his mother-in-law, Vera Kasper,2 brothers-in-law, Don Wenzel and Don Steinke. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at St Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert. The Rev. Mike Betley will officiate. Burial will be in the Potter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Brillion on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and then at the church on Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Online condolences may be made at www.wieting-funeralhome.com
