Obituary

Jerome H. Wink, 85, of New Holstein passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. He was born October 26, 1930, on the family farm in Forest Junction to Adolph & Clara (Timm) Wink. Jerry graduated from Holmes Grade School and Brillion High School in 1948. He served in the Army as a cook from December 10, 1953 until December 10, 1955. Jerry was an Honor Graduate of the US Army Cook & Baker School. On October 10, 1953, he married Lois M. Wardeska in Forest Junction. Jerry and Lois celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in October of 2013. Lois preceded him in death on January 4, 2014. He established the State Farm Insurance Agency in New Holstein in 1963. He retired in 1995; prior to that, he had worked as a delivery driver for UPS. Jerry served as the Mayor for the City of New Holstein from 1968 to 1976. He had also served as the city utility president from 1976 until 2001. Jerry and Lois enjoyed their weekends at White Potato Lake at their cottage they built in 1972. They enjoyed fishing, pontoon rides, snowmobiling, attending Packer games and their travels throughout the country; he truly enjoyed his most recent trip on the Honor Flight to visit the War Memorials in Washington DC with his son, Scott. He especially enjoyed entertaining family and friends with his talent in singing and songs. Jerry was always known for a good joke or story. "Dad loved cooking and baking for his family and friends. His well-known specialty was chipped beef (aka xxxx on a shingle)". He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in New Holstein and the New Holstein American Legion Post 124. Jerry was very proud to be recognized with various awards and achievements through State Farm Insurance. He was a very giving, generous and a soft-spoken man. Survivors include his four children, Craig (Kelly) Wink of Fond du Lac, Dawn (Bill) Schmitz of Malone "Johnsburg", Sherri (Oscar) Serron of Appleton and Scott (Trudy) Wink of New Holstein; his grandchildren, Jaryd, Cameron (special friend, Brooke Hanson) and Ava Wink, Stefanie (Jason) Petrie, Lauren (Jimmy) Guelig and Marlee Schmitz (special friend, James Hall Jr.), Michael and Christina Serron and Anna Wink; great-grandchildren, Daelyn Wink, Vera and Aiden Petrie and Evelyn Guelig; his sister, Marcella "Red" deCoster of New Holstein; his brother, Dean (Gertie) Wink of Appleton; two sisters-in-law, Germaine Wink and LaVerne Wall. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Adolph & Clara Wink; his wife, Lois, and her parents, Herbert & Frances Wardeska; a grand-daughter, Alexandra Wink; two brothers, Willmer (Avis) Wink and Lloyd Wink; four sisters, Gertrude (Harvey) Just, Bernice (Harold) Krueger, La Verne (Mike) Ott and Dorothy (Lloyd) Wolf and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William "Bud" deCoster, Roy Wall and Delores (Wally "Tiny") Miller. Funeral Services for Jerry will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at St. John United Church of Christ, 2111 Church Street New Holstein, WI 53061. Rev. James Werner will officiate. Military Rites conducted by the New Holstein American Legion Post 124 and Military Honors will take place at the church following services. Jerry will be laid to rest next to his wife, Lois, in the New Holstein City Cemetery. Visitation: Family and friends may greet the family at the church Saturday, December 12th from 1:00 PM until 3:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in his name.
