Joan M. (Achter) Schoenborn, 59, of Johnsburg passed away from cancer on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac. She was born on August 4, 1951 to Lauretta (Schram) Achter and the late Clifford Achter. Joan graduated from New Holstein High School in 1969. On August 28, 1971, she married James Oscar Schoenborn at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joe. Joan was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg and was the treasurer of the parish council. She formerly served as treasurer for the parish Altar Society. Joan was a member of the Malone Area Heritage Museum where she served on the newsletter committee. For many years Joan was active with her daughters in 4-H. She served as the General Leader for the Johnsburg Lakeviewers 4-H Club and taught many to knit, crochet, and sew. Joan was employed at National Exchange Bank & Trust in Fond du Lac. She had an AAP Degree and was a team leader in the Account Services Department. She was an avid Packer, Brewer, and Badger fan. Joan loved to knit and crochet, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her 13 grandchildren. Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Jim; her five daughters, Stacy Schoenborn (special friend, Brian) of St. Peter, Vicki (Brian) Meyer of Kiel, Lisa (Weyland) Fong of San Jose, CA, Jolene (Jason) Meyer of Johnsburg, and Jami Schoenborn (special friend, Ayham) of Johnsburg; 13 grandchildren, Travis, Trevor, Trey, and Trent Roehrig, Carleen, Halle, and Vincent Meyer, Isaac, Abigail, and Elijah Fong and Connor, Makayla, and Elizabeth Meyer; her mother, Lauretta Achter of St. Joe/ St. Cloud, her sister, Lily Mae (Tony) Baus of Fond du Lac; her twin brother, John (Alice) Achter of Kiel; her brother, Paul (Lois) Achter of New Holstein; a sister-in-law, Janice Achter of Las Vegas, NV; an aunt, Celestine Meyer of Green Bay; her mother-in-law, Frances Schoenborn of Johnsburg; two sisters-in-law, Joan Gerhartz of Marytown and Patti Schoenborn-Kinjerski and her husband, Earl of De Pere. Joan is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Preceding her in death were her father, Clifford Achter; her brother, Daniel Achter; an uncle and aunt, Lawrence & Faith Schram; her God parents, Ray & Marie Wettstein; her father-in-law, Ferdy Schoenborn; and two brothers-in-law, Steven Schoenborn and Roman Gerhartz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church N9288 County Road W Fond du Lac "Johnsburg". Rev. Joseph Coerber will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 1311 Thorp Street in St. Cloud on Friday, January 28, 2011 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again at the funeral home Saturday morning from 9:00-10:15 AM when brief family rites will be held. A prayer service will be held at 8:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. A Memorial Fund will be established in her name. The family would like to express many thank yous to the doctors, nurses, staff, and many volunteers of St. Agnes Hospital and Agnesian Health Care, Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Central Wisconsin Cancer Center, and the Hospice Home of Hope.
