John T. Hemauer, age 88, of New Holstein, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021, at the Ascension Calumet Hospital in Chilton. He was born January 29, 1933, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton to John & Rose (Nadler) Hemauer. John attended grade school at St. Mary's Catholic Grade School in Stockbridge and attended two years at Stockbridge High School prior to moving to New Holstein. He graduated from New Holstein High School in 1951. He attended U.W. Eau Claire where he studied and played football. On June 22, 1957, he married Jean Kautzer at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. In 1960, John & Jean purchased the drive-in on the south end of New Holstein and named it Hemauer's Drive-In. They owned the drive in for nine years. In 1956 John also began working at the Arps Corp in New Holstein, which later became Amerequip. John retired from Amerequip as Quality Control Manager in 1998. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein, where he served on the school board for many years, was a songleader, and sang in the church choir. John was a charter member of the New Holstein Lions Club where he served as a past president, secretary, and tail twister. He also was an active member of the Holy Name Society and the New Holstein Knights of Columbus Council 12393. He took pride in maintaining the messages on the New Holstein city message board in front of the firehouse for many years. John was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He held season tickets since 1957, attended the famous Ice Bowl, and was in attendance at Super Bowl II in Miami and Super Bowl XXXI in New Orleans. He enjoyed his golf and bowling leagues for many years. He also was active coaching baseball and umpiring softball games. Survivors include his wife, Jean; his three children, Scott Hemauer of De Pere, Suzanne (Craig) Endres of Oak Creek, and Ross Hemauer of Onalaska; seven grandchildren, Mackenzie, Gavin, Jacob, and Myles Hemauer, Caleb, Joshua, and Nathan Endres; his sister, Doris Zahringer of Stockbridge; his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hemauer of Sierra Vista, AZ, Lois Hillmer of Two Rivers, Karen (Johnnie) Pinell of Colorado Springs, Mary (Charles) Smittkamp of Port Washington, and Ellen (Gene) Park of New Berlin; his brother-in-law, John Kautzer of De Pere. He is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. Preceding him death were his parents, John & Rose Hemauer; four sisters; and nine brothers. The family would like to thank the staff at Ascension Hospital in Chilton and the Homestead in New Holstein for their compassion and care for John over this past week. A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, December 3, 2021, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison Street, New Holstein, WI 53061. John will be laid to rest in the parish cemetery following the Mass.
