John B. Kolodzik, age 89, of New Holstein, passed away with his family at his side on Thursday, December 18, 2014, at the Chilton Care Center following a short illness. He was born July 17, 1925, in Manitowoc to the late Albert W. & Mamie (Brice) Kolodzik. John attended St. Andrew's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1943. He lettered 2 years in high school tennis. He won the Manitowoc Men's Singles Championship in 1947. John enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1943 and was discharged in February 1946 attaining the rank of 2nd Lt. Bombardier. On July 24, 1948, he married Pauline Vande Castle. The couple lived in Milwaukee allowing John to attend Marquette University. He graduated in February 1951 with a degree in Business Administration/Accounting. Following graduation, he began employment with Peoples State Bank which became M&I New Holstein Bank where he remained for 38 ½ years until his retirement in July 1989 as Asst. Vice President. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein Kiwanis, New Holstein American Legion Post 124; where he served as Post Commander, men's bowling league, horseshoe league, and 8-ball pool league. Survivors include his wife, Pauline; his four children, Joanne Kolodzik of Appleton, Nancy (Tom) Reinl of Chilton, Karen (Ron) Deffner of Green Bay, and Michael (Susan) Kolodzik of Appleton; his granddaughter, Maria (Jesse) Byrge; two great-granddaughters, Haley and Taylor Byrge; and a step great-grandson, Nick Schneider. He is further survived by a brother, William Kolodzik; and sisters-in-law, Mary Kolodzik and Lucille Bergner. Preceding him in death were his parents; grandson, Tim Reinl; brother, Albert "Glenn" Kolodzik; sister, Emerdine (Russell) Montey; and sister-in-law, Pat Kolodzik. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 29, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 1724 Madison Street New Holstein, WI 53061. Rev. David Bergner, SDS, will officiate with Deacon Pat Knier assisting. Military Rites conducted by New Holstein American Legion Post 124 will be held at the church following the mass. Family and friends may call at the church Monday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in his name.
