Joseph “Joe” G. Butler, age 71, of Sherwood, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday morning, July 27, 2025.
Joe was born on July 1, 1954, in Madison, son of the late Jerry & Patricia (Cafferty) Butler. He was a graduate of Oshkosh High School, class of 1972 and went on to further his education at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. His outgoing personality was helpful in his career as a salesman for the machine tooling business. In retirement, he was known as “Mr. Joe” and drove bus for the Kaukauna school district. On April 13, 1991, he married the love of his life, Peggy Schiefelbein (his honey girl) at St. Paul’s Church in Oconomowoc. Joe and Peggy enjoyed doing many things together, one of them was fishing for walleye and perching on Lake Winnebago. Joe was an avid Packer fan and looked forward to Football Sunday banters with his dear Ravino friends. He loved reading, keeping up with the news, watching westerns and listening to jazz music, especially Frank Sinatra. He also loved teaching his grandchildren how to do nerve holds. He also took part in deer hunting for many years with his brother and brother in-laws. But he loved nothing more than his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his strong catholic faith.
Joe is survived by his wife, Peggy; children: Jennifer, Sarah, Megan, and Colin (Jamie); grandchildren: Shane, Kaitlynn, Anthony, Elias, Issac, Madalynn, and Addyson; great-grandchildren: Harrison, Ali, and Andi; siblings and in-laws: John (Marty) Butler, Anne Butler, Scott (Joyce) Schiefelbein, Chris (Sandy) Schiefelbein, Wendy (Bill) Morris, Craig (Mary) Schiefelbein, Ryan (Kim) Schiefelbein, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his one sister: Mary, parents Jerry and Patsy, Aunt Mary Cafferty his father-in-law and mother-in-law: David & JoAnn Schiefelbein, and other relatives.
A Memorial Visitation and Service will take place on Saturday, August 16 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Nashotah. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. -11:45 a.m. followed by a 12:00 Mass. Entombment of his cremated remains will be at La Belle Mausoleum.
