Obituary

Joseph C. Schaefer, age 98, of rural Glenbeulah, Wisconsin, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Plymouth Healthcare Services.

He was born July 6, 1925, in the Town of Marshfield near St. Cloud to William & Antonia (Dreifuerst) Schaefer. He attended St. Cloud Catholic Grade School.

On August 25, 1948, he married Marian Bieger at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. Marian preceded him in death on December 3, 2005. On September 15, 2007, he married Anna Marie (Baus) Wergin, she preceded him in death on December 1, 2020.

Joe farmed in the Town of Greenbush near St. Cloud until selling his farm. He then began his trade in carpentry with Steffes Builders which eventually led to real-estate investing in Fond du Lac.

Joe enjoyed his 32 years of being a snowbird in Florida during the winter season and spending the summer months at his home in the Town of Greenbush. He was an avid bowler; in 2022 he was awarded Athlete of the Week for Polk County Florida. Joe proudly displayed his refurbished Caterpillar and Ford tractor in numerous local parades.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-St. Cloud Site.

Survivors include his daughter, Susan (Larry) Meyer of Newton; five grandchildren, Kari (Aaron) Noskowiak, Garret Meyer (girlfriend, Allie), Paul (Jennifer) Meyer, Cody Meyer (fiancé, Jesse), and Savannah (Tom) Kuhl; Great-grandchildren, Carter, Landon, and Jase Noskowiak, Natallia Meyer, Daniel Schlembach, Miguel Hartel, Wyatt Codr, and soon to be baby Hudson Kuhl. Joe is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, William & Antonia Schaefer; his first wife, Marian; his second wife, Anna; his son, John; his sisters and brother, Hortense Sippel, Hazel Wettstein, and Leonard Schaefer.

A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-St. Cloud Site, 924 Main Street, St. Cloud, Wisconsin 53079. Rev. Larry Abler, OFM Cap will preside. Joe will be laid to rest next to his wife, Marian, in the St. Cloud Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Joe's family at the Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street, St. Cloud, WI 53079 on Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM and again at the funeral home Monday morning, October 16th from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

Memorials may be directed, in his memory, to the Holyland Catholic School.

Joe's family expresses their heart-felt appreciation to the staff at Plymouth Healthcare Services and Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for the care given to him.
