Joseph Spanbauer Jr., age 85, of rural St. Cloud (Town of Forest) passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Friday, March 18, 2016, at the Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh. He was born March 18, 1931, in Oshkosh to the late Joseph Sr. & Inez (Messerschmidt) Spanbauer. Joseph graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1949. Joseph served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict from December 5, 1950 until September 28, 1954. He was very proud of his service to his country. On May 4, 1957, he married the love of his life, Lois Juedes at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oshkosh. Joseph, his wife and their family farmed in the Town of Forest until 1986. He loved hunting, fishing, especially sturgeon spearing and working on his farm tractors. He was an excellent carpenter and welder. Family was everything to him; his love of his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him. Survivors include his wife & love of his life, Lois; his son, Gregg Spanbauer and his special friend, Alicia Martinez of Mount Calvary; his loved and cherished daughter-in-law, Beverly Spanbauer of Eden; his daughter, Lynn (David) Schmitz of St. Cloud; six grandchildren, Jessie (Jeremy) Liegl, Jason (Katrina) Spanbauer, Katie (Phil) Gourdine, Jamie (Wendy) Schmitz, Adam (Sabrina) Schmitz, Andrew (Jessica) Schmitz; six great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Matthew and William Liegl, Gavin "Jovan" Spanbauer, Breea Gourdine and Larsen Schmitz and his brother, William "Bill" (Kay) Spanbauer of Oshkosh. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant grandson, David Schmitz and his sister, Audrey (Bob) Gueller. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at St. Isidore Parish-St. Cloud Church, 924 Main Street St. Cloud, WI 53079. Rev. Gary Wegner, OFM Cap will officiate. Military Rites conducted by the Naval Honor Guard and the Harvey Blonigen American Legion Post 478 will take place following the Mass. Burial will be in the St. Cloud Catholic Cemetery.
