Joseph Vogel

Joseph T. Vogel, age 91 of rural Reedsville, died on Friday September 14, 2012 at his home. He was born March 2, 1921, son of the late John & Sarah (McGinty) Vogel. He attended St. Patrick Parochial School in Maple Grove and graduated from St. Norbert High School, DePere in 1940. Joe served in the U.S. Army from November of 1942 to 1946. Following his basic training in Kansas and California, he was stationed in Hawaii before leaving for a tour of duty in the South Pacific. He served with the 911th Tank Battalion and was a veteran of the Battle of Okinawa. Following his marriage to Rita Doolan, on April 15, 1952, the couple farmed until retiring in 1984. He was a charter member of Cato V.F.W #6179, the Reedsville American Legion Post #199, St. Michael Catholic Church in Whitelaw, and was a former member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Maple Grove and St. Patrick Holy Name Society. Survivors include his wife Rita, 2 daughters and 1 son, Mary Jo (Todd) Musial of Green Bay, Mark (Lisa) Vogel of Reedsville and their family, Emybeth, Katie and Steven, Janet (Bill) Reis of Oconto Falls and their family Michael and Sarah, a sister Catherine Kabat of DePere, 2 sisters-in-law Donna Schlei and Lou Raether both of Manitowoc, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law Sarah (John) Hale, 2 infant sisters, 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed (Mary) Vogel, Bill (Lucille) Vogel, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Athlyn (Cliff) OConnell, Elizabeth (Frank) Herold, Marge (George) Gibeault, George Schlei, Allan Raether and Bill Kabat. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 5:00 P.M. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Whitelaw. The Rev. Richard Klingeisen will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Maple Grove. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Reedsville on Monday from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. with mass to follow at 5:00 p.m. at St. Michaels. There will be no visitation at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Joes name. Online condolences may be made at www.wieting-funeralhome.com.
