Josephine Schneider, age 96, of New Holstein, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016, at the Atrium Post Acute Care Center in New Holstein. She was born March 14, 1920, in Hillsboro, WI to Martin & Elsie (Rynes) Kelbel. On November 7, 1942, she married Lester B. Schneider in Oregon, WI; Lester preceded her in death on October 30, 1994. Jo was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein, the Christian Women's Society and the Calumet Homestead Auxiliary. She was very active in the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and overall in the New Holstein community. She played a key part in the fundraising efforts to construct the first city pool built in the 1950's. Survivors include her eight children, Roy Schneider of Malone, Roger (Judi) Schneider of Vincennes, IN, Larry (Tammy) Schneider of Colfax, WI, Ron (Sandie) Schneider of Campbellsburg, KY, Cathy Konen of Chilton, Tom (Karen) Schneider of Cleveland, WI, Barb (Dennis) Forstner of New Holstein, Bev (Bill) Biederwolf of Howards Grove, WI; son-in-law, Joe Merchant of Oakland City, IN; her "10th child", Katie Kupfer; 14 grandchildren, Matthew (Kelli), Michael (Miranda), Jay (Cheryl), Tiffany (Jon), Ken (Chris), Linda (Al), Lisa (Jason), Jason (Britney), Kelly , Jackie (Tim), Mark (Marki), Tyler (Gail), Emily (Shawn) and Eric: 24 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen Purcell of Oregon, WI. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding Jo in death were her parents, Martin & Elsie Kelbel; two step fathers, her husband, Lester; her daughter, Laurie Merchant; son-in-law, Oscar Konen and a granddaughter, Kim. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison Street New Holstein, WI 53061.
