Joy Della Emma (Kasten) Brandt, age 83, of Reedsville, passed away at Cherry Meadows Hospice, Appleton, on Sunday, August 23, 2015. During her entire stay at Cherry Meadows she was never alone, as immediate family members were always present. She was born on April 11, 1932 near Wayside in Brown County, the oldest daughter of the late Arthur and Lydia (Degner) Kasten. Joy was baptized on May 1, 1932 and confirmed on April 14, 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church, Wayside. 1 Timothy, Chapter 4, Verse 8 - "...Godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is and that which is to come." - was her Confirmation memory verse. She graduated from Brillion High School in 1950 and continued her education at River Forest College, Illinois, being called early to teach first and second grade in her home congregation at Zion Lutheran, Wayside, from 1952-1953. Joy married Elmer Brandt at Zion Lutheran Church, Wayside, on August 15, 1953. Elmer preceded her in death on February 6, 1995. She is survived by her siblings: Roger (Marcia) Kasten of De Pere, Betty Krueger of De Pere, Carol Borchardt of Greenleaf, and Roy Kasten of Brillion; six children, three daughters-in-law, and two sons-in-law: Steven (Sandy) Brandt of Denmark, Wendy (Alan) Nyberg of Anchorage, AK, Paul (Ellen) Brandt of Reedsville, Tami (James) Prust of Kaukauna, Lori Brandt of Anchorage, AK, and Mark (Shelly) Brandt of Reedsville; eight grandchildren: Corey Nyberg and Nicole Nyberg (Ohler), Michael and Gabrielle Brandt, Stuart and Erin Prust, and Trophe and Ticus Brandt; and one great-grandchild, Brandon Ohler. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, and brother-in-law Meinhard Borchardt. Working alongside of her husband, they founded Humpty Dumpty Eggs, Inc. in 1956. Joy was a faithful member of St. John-St. James Lutheran Church in Reedsville where she enjoyed volunteering, including serving school lunch and serving on the Finance and Stewardship Committees. She was also a member of the Quilters Group. Joy was an avid bird watcher, and Packers and Brewers fan. For many years she enjoyed spending summers with family in Alaska. She had many precious moments with her grandchildren including crafting, teaching crocheting and attending school and sports events and performances. Family and friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home, Reedsville, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28 and on Saturday, August 29 from 9:00 - 10:45 a.m. at St. John-St. James Lutheran Church, Reedsville.
