Kathleen "Katie" Ann (Hoffmann) Vander Putten, age 92, formerly lived in New Holstein, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Field of Dreams in Kiel.
She was born on May 5, 1931, in New Holstein, Wisconsin to Joseph and Eleanore (Pitzen) Hoffmann.
Katie graduated 8th grade in 1945 from St. Mary's Catholic Middle School. She graduated from New Holstein High School in 1949.
On June 10, 1953, she married Robert Vander Putten at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. Robert preceded her in death on December 9, 1996.
Katie and Bob owned and operated "Bob and Katie's Tavern" in New Holstein for one year. Also, she worked for Dr. Larme's office, Kestell Furniture, and retired from Tecumseh Products in 1993.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Parish, Holy Rosary Christian Women and a 70 year member of the New Holstein Legion Auxiliary.
Katie enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, crocheting, knitting, and taking photos. She made numerous scarfs, mittens, afghans, doilies, and Christmas ornaments for family and friends. Katie loved the "Green Bay Packers". She enjoyed telling the story about the famous "Ice Bowl" game. She enjoyed traveling the world with her brother & sister-in-law, George and Judy Hoffmann.
Katie is survived by her four children, Barbara (Brian) Retlich of Cleveland, Beth (John) Riehn of Kiel, Karen Buechel of Chilton, and John (Shannon) Vander Putten of Kiel; her grandchildren, Jason (Jen) Retlich, Christopher Retlich, Michelle (partner Ida) Riehn, Rebecca Riehn, Shaun (Haily) Buechel, Dominique (Ean) Von Wald, Madyson Vander Putten, Mitchell Vander Putten; step great grandchild, Cait Sequin; great grandchildren, Gunnar Retlich, Parker Retlich, and Berkley Buechel; her sister, Bernice Kraus; brother, George (Judy) Hoffmann; and brother-in-law, Ronald (Marian) Freund. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Joseph & Eleanore Hoffmann; daughter, Roberta; twin grandchildren, Maxwell & McKenna Vander Putten; and her sisters, Celeste Hoffmann, Betty Freund, Anita Schomisch, Alice Kiesner, and Mary Rother. She is further preceded by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry Kiesner, Ralph Kraus, Wayne Schomisch, Eugene Vander Putten, Roger and Betty Hammen, Ralph Vander Putten, and Gordon and June Propson.
A liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison Street, New Holstein, WI 53061. Rev. Alvan Amadi will officiate. Katie will be laid to rest in the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery after Mass.
Visitation will be held at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 10:00 AM-12:45 PM.
