LaNell “Nell” Canales, age 89, of Brillion, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, July 26, 2026 at Care Partners-Country Terrace where she resided for the past year.

Nell was born on July 31, 1936 in Arp Texas, to the late Joseph and Nobie (Powers) Nobles. She graduated from Gaston High School in 1954 and furthered her education at Wharton Jr. College to obtain a degree in Business. Nell then went on to work as a secretary at Royal Typewriter and later as an Office Manager at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston TX, until her retirement in 2002. It was while she was working as a Secretary at Royal Typewriter where she met and fell in love with her husband George M. Canales Sr., and on November 2, 1959 they were united in marriage in Houston TX.

Nell loved spending time with family and socializing with friends as well as taking care of her dog and cats. In 2020 Nell made the move from her home in Texas to live with her family in Wisconsin.

Nell is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Jason “Jay” and Catherine Canales, Brillion; grandchildren: Alyssa (Jon) Canales Tabers Kwak and Joshua Canales. A Great-Granddaughter Eloise Mildred Tabers-Kwak; Her Step-daughter: Pamela Ann Mitchell of Tomball TX; Two Brothers and Two Sister-in-laws: Harold (Susie) Loden, John Loden, and Lois Delfs. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father: Joseph Nobles; Mother and Step-Father; Nobie and George Loden; husband: George Canales Sr., Son: Raphael Davis “Dave” Canales; Step-Son: George Canales Jr., Brothers: Joe Nobles and George Loden Jr., and Sister: Nadine Loosier Silvertooth.

A Requiem Mass in the Traditional Latin Rite will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 211 N. Maple St., with Rev. William Evans of St. Mary’s Oratory (Wausau) officiating, on Monday August 3rd. Rosary will be recited at 9:30am with Mass to follow at 10:00am. She will be laid to rest at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery, St. Nazianz. 

The family will greet relatives and friends at Pielhop Funeral Home on Sunday, August 2nd from 4:00pm until 6:00pm. The Rosary will be said at 4:30pm at the funeral home.
