Laverne Ott

LaVerne Ott, age 96, of Brillion, passed away on January 13, 2015 at West Haven, Brillion with her family at her side. She was born July 26, 1918 to the late Adolph and Clara (Timm) Wink. She realized her love for teaching children and began her teaching career in 1936. After four years of teaching, on June 8, 1940, she married her best friend, Merlin "Mike" Ott. She farmed with him until his accidental death in 1971. LaVerne then went back to college and received her bachelor degree in education. From 1970 until 1988, she taught in the St. John, Hilbert, and Brillion areas until her retirement. LaVerne was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church, and a member of the Loyal Gleaner's Bible Class, President of the United Methodist Womens Society for over 20 years. She loved attending Bible Study at West Haven. She was a member of the Calumet County Retired Education Association, treasurer of the Brillion Senior Citizens, member of the Brillion Historical Society and a Charter member of the Brillion Womens Club. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Survivors include her children: Chuck & Karen of Stockbridge, Dale & Kathy of Green Bay, Faye & Garry Moore of Appleton, Connie & Denis Lamers of Kaukauna, Jill Ott of Brillion, LoAnn & Gary Boesch of Hilbert; eighteen grandchildren: Brian (Lisa) Ott, Corey (Gina) Ott, Ann (John) Levknecht, Michael (Lisa) Ott, Michelle (Anton) Doneff, Terri (John) Lukashewich, Robert (Megan) Moore, Chris Lamers, Laurie (Andy) Van Dyck, Todd (Elvira) Lamers, Michael Lamers, Jon (Neeley) Lamers, Tammy Ott, Tony Ott (Special Friend Amanda), David Boesch, Kelly (Bill) Biese, A. J. Boesch (fiance' Cassie Bangart), Erin (Mike) Nett; twenty nine great grandchildren; two brothers: Jerome Wink of New Holstein and Dean (Gertrude) Wink of Appleton; one sister: Marcella de Coster of New Holstein; 2 sisters-in-law: Lucille Ott and Germaine Wink; many nephews, nieces and friends. LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin in 1971, one son Larry in 2006, three sisters: Gertrude Just, Bernice Krueger, and Dorothy Wolf, and two brothers: Wilmer and Lloyd Wink. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17 at Zion United Methodist Church in Forest Junction. The Rev. Becki Kindshi will officiate. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 am to 10:30 am with the funeral to follow at 11:00 am. Online condolences may be made.
