Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" B. Caird, age 84, of Fond du Lac, passed away with his family at his side on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Harbor Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center in Fond du Lac.

He was born May 14, 1940, in Fond du Lac to the late Byron & Margaret (Stiller) Caird. He graduated from Fond du Lac Senior High School in 1958. Lawrence served in Army from 1960 until 1962.

On July 14, 1965, he married Sue Ann Sampson. Sue preceded him in death on November 10, 2016.

Larry was employed as a locomotive engineer for 36 years with the Soo Line Railroad which later became Canadian Pacific in North Fond du Lac. After retiring in 2000, he began driving school bus for Johnson Bus Company; he continued driving for 20 years; retiring in 2020.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman, whether he was casting a line, throwing a spear, waiting for the big buck, or teaching his kids his love for the outdoors. When he was not hunting or fishing, he loved to watch his birds, work in his garden, make wood, and watch all sports (with the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers being his favorites). Larry and Sue Ann enjoyed traveling and going out to eat at Blanck's Supper Club and spending time with friends. Family was his number one priority; second was his appetite.

He was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Peter Church where he sang in the church choir. Larry was a very devout Catholic.

Those left to cherish his memory include his five children, Randy (Bonnie) Caird of rural New Holstein "Marytown", Tim (Judy) Caird of Malone, Tammy Caird of Mount Calvary, Suzy (Kris) Gurno of Fond du Lac, and Larry Jr. (Mary) Caird of Manitowoc; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Hack, Anna Drotzur, Amber Wilke, Amanda Tasso, Hunter Davis, Margaret Caird, Ally Caird, Hannah Gurno, Mady Gurno, Brandy Griffis, Nathan Lutterman, and Jonathan Lutterman; 12 great-grandchildren, Alisyn, Ethan, Stella, Sam, David, Jordan, Jasmine, Aurora, Taylor, Laylin, Lucy, and Roslyn; a great-great-grandchild, Xavier; a sister, Sharon (Robert) Schmitz of Fond du Lac; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Huck of Shawano. He is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends, especially Robert & Sharon Grinnell.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Sue Ann; his parents Byron & Margaret Caird; a daughter, Renee Hindes; two grandchildren, Augusta Caird and baby Tasso.

A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Holy Family Parish-St. Peter Church in St. Peter (N8079 Church Road, Malone, WI 53049).
