Obituary

Leo M. Wirth, 88, formerly of St. Joe died Tuesday March 16, 2010 at the St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac where he resided since January 2008. He was born May 27, 1921 on the family homestead in the Town of Marshfield near St. Joe to the late Ben & Isabella Knaus Wirth. Leo graduated from St. Joseph Catholic Grade School in 1935. On September 4, 1950 he married Dolores Guelig at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary. Dolores preceded him in death on March 1, 2009. Leo farmed in the St. Joe area all his life until retiring. Leo was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joe. He served on the church's parish council and was a member of the Catholic Knights. Leo is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Wirth and her husband, Philip Palmer of Irving, TX; his son, Steven (Patricia) Wirth of Portage, MI; four grandchildren, Suzanne (Michael) Rogers, Christine (Alexander) Walther, James (Katherine) Wirth and Matthew Wirth; three sisters, Lorraine Wirtz of Mount Calvary, Laura Mae Goll of Sheboygan Falls and Marlene (Earl) Klotz of New Holstein; two brothers, Melvin (Betty) Wirth of Omro and Delmer Wirth of Fond du Lac; four sisters-in-law, Mary Wirth of Fond du Lac, Angeline (Jerome) Schmitz of Kiel, Elsie (Richard) O'Connell of Dearborn, MI and Myrtle (Melvin) Olig of Mount Calvary and a brother-in-law, Jerome (Sandra) Guelig of St. Peter. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Dolores; two brothers, Br. Edwin Wirth and Lloyd Wirth and six sisters, Evelyn Braun, Stella Mueller, Mildred Brenner, Alita Merten, Viola Wirth and Lillian Wirth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday March 17, 2010 at the St. Francis Home Chapel 33 Everett Street Fond du Lac. Rev. Oliver Bambenek OFM Cap. will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery in St. Joe Family and friends may call at the St. Francis Home Chapel on Wednesday from 3:00 PM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice Hope or the St. Francis Home Foundation. The Wirth family is grateful to the nurses and staff of Hospice Hope and the St. Francis Nursing Home for their loving care and support.
