Leon Arthur Schmitz, age 91, of Chilton, met with his family again in his heavenly home on Monday, November 13, 2017 after short battle with cancer. Leon was born on September 26, 1926, in Calico, North Dakota to Arthur and Gertrude (Wirth) Schmitz. When he was nine years old his family moved back to Wisconsin and settle in Jericho. Leon worked on the family dairy farm until 1991. He attended Jericho grade school and graduated at Chilton High School. After working on the family farm most of his life, he worked at various cheese companies; Hernke and Sargento. Leon was a gracious and loving man. He was always willing to help people out by taking them grocery shopping or to their appointments. He would even go as far as cleaning the elderly people's windshields off in the winter time. Leon loved to watch the Packers and he loved going out and having fun. Leon is survived by his nieces and nephews Howard (Julie) Schmitz, Kathleen Schmitz, Lavonne (David) Brandt, Wayne (Judy) Thome, Robert (Cheryl) Thome, and John (Jane) Knapp Preceded him in death were his parents, brothers and sisters Bernice (Joseph) Wick, Omer (Lee) Schmitz, Alice (Robert) Thome, and Rita (Harry) Knapp To honor Leon's request a private service will be held at Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Avenue, New Holstein, WI 53061, and burial in Jericho cemetery with his parents. Thanks a "million" to the Atrium Post Acute Care of Chilton who took him in and cared for him like a family member. Special thanks to his good friend Mike who visited him daily during his final departure days; also to caring hands of the Heartland Hospice Visiting Nurses. We would like to thank everyone for their prayers during Leon's hard times. May he rest in peace.
