Leona C. Nett, age 86, of Marytown, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family by her side on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Homestead Care Center in New Holstein.
The former Leona Muellenbach was born January 24, 1925 in Marytown to the late John & Ludwina (Kempf) Muellenbach. She attended grade school at St. Mary's Grade School in Marytown.
On May 21, 1946, she married Robert Nett at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown. Leona and her husband celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary this past May 21st. Leona worked at Blanck's Supper Club & Northland Turkey Farms along with helping her husband operate the family farm in the Town of Calumet near Marytown.
She was an avid cake decorator and loved to bake cakes in the shape of dolls for her family. Her sons-in-law loved her banana cream pie and her orange slice bread. She spent a lot of time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who enjoyed being rocked to sleep with her soft voice singing "How much is that doggy in the window".
Leona was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown, the Altar & Rosary Society and the Daughters of Isabella.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; her four children, Judith (Allen) Heus of St. Anna, Susan (Jack) Parks of Gilbert, AZ, Mary (Robert) Taylor of Watertown, and Gary (Joan) Nett of Marytown; her son-in-law, Keith Berchem of Hilbert; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn (Robert) Freund of Johnsburg; and three sisters-in-law, Betty (Marvin) Kraus of Calvary Station, Evelyn Pavlicek of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Marie Casper of Green Bay.
Preceding her in death were her parents, John & Ludwina Muellenbach; two daughters, Mary Christine Nett and Barbara Berchem; three brothers, Herbert, James (Jackie), and Marvin Muellenbach; two sisters, Anita (Herbert) Klapperich and Lorraine (Joe) Schaub; and her father-in-law & mother-in-law, Nick & Emma Nett.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church N10232 County Road G New Holstein "Marytown". Rev. Joseph Coerber will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Ave. New Holstein on Tuesday, July 12th from 5:00-8:00 PM and at the church in Marytown Wednesday morning from 10:00-10:45 AM.
