Obituary

Lloyd R. Petrie, 77, of New Holstein died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, November 26, 2012, at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. He was born January 19, 1935, to the late Alfred & Acella (Rieder) Petrie. He grew up in the St. Joe area and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1953. He served in the US Army from 1954-1956; stationed in Germany for 18 months. On October 20, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Woelfel at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Lloyd worked at various manufacturing facilities before fulfilling his live-long passion of farming which he enjoyed doing for over 50 years. Even after moving off the homestead, he never really retired, helping his sons on their farms and enjoying every minute of it. Lloyd was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein American Legion Post 124, Fox Valley Polka Review Dance Club, and the We Love to Dance Club where he served in many offices. Beside his love to dance, he enjoyed playing in many card clubs, one with friends since high school and traveling across the US and abroad. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Betty, who never left his side to the very end; his sons, Larry (Pam), Dave (Pam), and Jim (Jeana), all of Chilton and his daughter, Dianne (Dan) Vorpahl of Kiel. His grandchildren, Nick Petrie and special friend, Nicole; Angie (Josh) Olson; Kristi (Charles) Busch; Renea (Lucas) Mertens; Rachael (Craig) Heeler; Andrea Vorpahl and special friend Travis; Brad Petrie and special friend Leah; Jamie Petrie; Jory Mentz and special friend Brittney. Great grandchildren, Sienna Petrie, Parker & Owen Olson, Nolan & Kynsley Busch, Weston & baby brother Heeler due in April, Hayden, Kaylee & Aiden Mentz. Also, survived by in-laws, Alice Petrie, Margaret Halbach, Eleanor & Kenneth Klotz, Delores Kampfer, Gladys Woelfel, Doris Turba, Donald & Betty Woefel, Ralph & Shirley Heus, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. Preceding him in death are his parents; brother, Harold Petrie, father & mother-in-law, Alex Sr. and Frances Woelfel, in-laws, Paul & Olga Woelfel, Alice Jane Woelfel, Jerome Kampfer, Clarence & Shirley Woelfel, Alex Woelfel Jr., Robert Turba & LaVern Halbach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison Street in New Holstein. Rev. Norman Krutzik will officiate with Deacon, Pat Knier assisting. Military Rites conducted by the New Holstein American Legion Post 124 will take place at the church following the Mass. Burial will be in the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue in New Holstein on Friday, Novemeber 30th from 4:00-8:00 PM and again at the funeral home Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 AM when brief family rites will be held. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home Friday evening at 8:00 PM.
