Loretta L. Schmitz, age 100, formerly of Johnsburg, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary, WI. She was born August 4, 1916, to the late Valentine and Margaret (Julka) Wagner in the town of Stockbridge. On May 28, 1938, she married Earl Schmitz at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2005. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg. Loretta is survived by her daughter, Susan (Charles) Gnewuch of Shorewood; her granddaughter, Christine (Ted) Koch of Johnsburg; great granddaughter, Brittany (Leonard) Crego of Glendale; sister, Margaret Schroeder of Mt. Calvary; and many other friends and relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Valentine and Margaret Wagner; her husband Earl; Brother Emmitt Wagner; sister, Florence Devine, Gilly Gilgenbach, and Irene Meunier. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 AM on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home Chapel N8114 County WW Mt. Calvary, WI. Rev. Gary Wegner OFM Cap. will officiate. Loretta will be laid to rest next to her husband, Earl, in the St. John the Baptist parish cemetery in Johnsburg.
