Obituary

Lorraine M. (Goebel) Wirth, 86, of the Villa Loretto Nursing Home, formerly of St. Joe, died peacefully Tuesday October 25, 2011 at the Villa Loretto Mt. Calvary, WI following a brief battle with cancer. She was born June 17, 1925 in the Town of Fond du Lac to the late Henry N. & Kathryn (Wietor) Goebel. Lorraine graduated from St. Mary's Springs Academy. On April 1, 1967 she married Raymond J. Wirth at St. Mary's Church, Fond du Lac WI. She retired from the Fond du Lac City Water Department. Lorraine was a member of St. Isidore Parish St. Joseph Church, Christian Women Society of St. Joe, St. Joe Quilters, Daughters of Isabella Quilters, Holy Family Quilters of Fond du Lac, Villa Loretto Quilters of Mt. Calvary, Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle of Fond du Lac where she served as past Regent of the Circle. She was a former member of the St.Cloud American Legion Auxiliary and St. Mary's Alter Society of Fond du Lac. In 2008, Lorraine received the Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award. She was an avid quilt maker, gardener (especially tending to her raspberries) and baker of her delicious "Hickory Nut Shine" cakes with butter cream frosting. She was also a gifted sewer, knitter, and crocheter. She enjoyed reading and doing jigsaw puzzles. Survivors include her husband, Raymond J. Wirth, a resident of Villa Loretto, Mt. Calvary (former resident of St. Joe); Step-Daughter, Cynthia Wirth Vollmer of Brown Deer; Son, Gregory Wirth of Green Bay; her Grandchildren, Derek (Karina) Vollmer of Singapore, Gina (Aaron) Bries of Neenah, Dustin Vollmer of Milwaukee; great Grand Daughter, Dewi Vollmer of Singapore. She is further survived by her Sisters, Marion O'Brien (her twin) of Fond du Lac, Catherine Ann (Milton) Adelmeyer of Fond du Lac, Sr. Josephine Goebel, CSA of St. Michaels, Arizona; Sister-in-law, Rose Marie (Victor) Backhaus of Kewaskum; numerous nieces & nephews; and a close friend, Sr. Jenada Fanetti SDS. Preceding her in death were her parents Henry N. & Kathryn Goebel; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur & Agnes Wirth; Sisters, Margaret (Wilbur) Buell and Helen (Ted) Nadolny; Brothers, Henry Goebel, Rev. Nicholas Goebel and John Goebel; Sister-in-law, LaVerne (Delmar) Mengel; a brother-in-law, John F. O'Brien; and three nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at St. Isidore Parish St. Joseph Church, W620 County Road G St. Cloud, WI "St. Joe". Rev. Steven Kropp OFM Cap. will officiate. Inurnment will be held in the St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street in St. Cloud on Saturday morning from 9:00-10:30 AM when brief family rites will be held.
