Obituary

Louis L. Presto, age 91, formerly of New Holstein, passed away Monday, June 01, 2015. He was born April 7, 1924, in Synarep, WA to the late Louis & Eileen (Cooper) Presto. He grew up and attended school in Cove, Oregon. Louis served in the Army from February 16, 1943, to January 30, 1946, where he was a welder and truck mechanic. On May 8, 1948, he married Doris Wendel at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. Doris preceded him in death on July 5, 2014. Louis was a carpenter who remodeled many homes in the area and helped build the New Holstein High School on Plymouth Street and the old public library on Wisconsin Avenue. For a brief time, he managed the Standard Oil service station, also on Wisconsin Avenue. Just before retirement, he spent a few years building bathroom and kitchen sets for Kohler Company's advertising department photo studio. After retirement, he built a studio of his own in his basement and began to create stained glass lampshades, windows and other decorative items. Louis was also a passionate golfer who took pride in beating the younger guys on the course. In 2001 he took the Men's Senior Championship at Hickory Hills. He was still golfing and resisted using a motorized cart into his 80's. When he could no longer golf, he got his exercise walking everywhere around New Holstein and later in Chilton. He is survived by his seven children, Linda Presto of Shorewood, Michael (Ann) Presto of Valders, Laura (Thomas) Casper of Elkhart Lake, Joan (Thomas) Ellenbecker of Madison, Jean (Mike) Stephan of Plymouth, Susan (Thomas) Beyer of Hilbert and Steven Presto of Florida; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis & Eileen Presto; his wife, Doris and a sister, Betty (Cliff) Hiatt. A time of gathering for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue New Holstein, WI 53061.
