Loyola I. Mertens
Loyola I. Mertens, age 90, formerly of Marytown, died Sunday, July 8, 2012 at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton.
The former Loyola Casper was born July 20, 1921 in Marytown to the late Joseph & Appolonia (Roehrig) Casper.
On May 26, 1941, she married Norman R. Mertens at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown. Norman preceded her in death on May 31, 2011.
She worked at Heus Egg Farm for many years.
Loyola was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown and its Altar & Rosary Society. She was a member of Daughters of Isabella Society. She belonged to The Marytown Quilters. She was a devoted Mother and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her 5 children, Dyanne (Sham) Crowley of Fond du Lac, Ken (Sandra) Mertens of Mount Calvary, Darlene Mertens of Chilton, Joan (Dave) Nickel of Pipe, and Nicholas (Jane "Jeanie") Mertens of Marytown; 9 grandchildren, Tammy,Bryan, Jody, Jamie, Scott, Devin, Cory, Ashley, and Casey; 13 great-grandchildren, Cody, Jordan, McKenna, Brennan, Carter, Logan, Taylor, Kaine, Carson, Owen, Trenton, Zachary, and Joshua; her brother, Ambrose (Lorraine) Casper of Marytown; a sister-in-law, Elaine Mertens of Chilton, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Norman; a great-grandson, Robert Michael Heus; 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, N10232 County Road G New Holstein "Marytown". Rev. Joseph Coerber will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Ave. in New Holstein, on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 4-8:00 PM and visitation will be Thursday morning at St. Mary's Church in Marytown from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 8:00 PM.
Loyola's family would like to thank the Chilton Care Center staff for the wonderful care given to her and her late husband, Norman over the past years. The family would also like to acknowledge the many visitors, both family & friends, who stopped in to visit with Mom.
