Ludwina "Peggy" Martha (Rieth) Horn, age 74, of rural St. Cloud "St. Joe", died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mount Calvary. The former Ludwina "Peggy" Rieth was born May 7, 1936 in the Town of New Holstein to the late Clemens and Barbara Woelfel Rieth. On September 7, 1955 she married David Horn at St. Anna Catholic Church in St. Anna. On September 11, 2005, they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Peggy was a housewife all her married life where she and her husband, Dave lived on a rural farm near St. Joe. She was a member of St. Isidore Parish St. Joseph Church, formerly St. Joseph Parish, where she was a past member of the parish council and a member of the Christian Women's Society. Peggy was an avid bowler and was on the women's league for many years. In June of 1979 she began her battle with breast cancer. After her start with cancer, she enjoyed her volunteer work. She volunteered for 22 years with the Red Cross Blood Bank Drive in Mount Calvary. Peggy enjoyed many years of service working for the Town of Marshfield at the election polls. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Branch 478 in St. Cloud-St. Joe for 20 years. For the past 20 years she had the office of president for the Catholic Knights Branch 179 of St. Cloud-St. Joe. All her married life she had such a love to help others to make things easier for them. For the past several years, she enjoyed Monday quilting with the ladies from the St. Joseph Church. Peggy's past time included growing roses, having a big garden, an occasional trip to Oneida and Pete's Tours. She loved spending time and making big meals for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and whoever happened to pop in. She also loved playing sheeps head with three different groups of dear friends; one of those groups played together for 54 years. Survivors include her husband, David; three loving children, Andrew "Andy" (RoseAnn) Horn of St. Cloud, Gordon "Gordy" (Kathleen) Horn of St. Cloud " St. Joe" and Phyllis "Tootie" (James) Koehler of New Holstein "Marytown"; four grandchildren, Pamela (Charles) Pierquet, Jeffery (Jill) Horn, Kate Horn and Anna Horn; three great-grandchildren, Quintin and Kylee Pierquet and Jenna Horn; two sisters, Lillian (Roger) Hansen of New Holstein and Evelyn (Alvin) Preissner of Malone "Pipe"; a brother-in-law, Harvey Horn of St. Cloud "St. Joe" and two sisters-in-law, Verna Mae (Carl) Walsh of Plymouth and Mary Gertrude Rieth of Chilton. Peggy is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John & Anna Horn; a granddaughter, Hope Marie Koehler; her sister and her husband, Bernetta (David) Gilsdorf and a brother, Orville Rieth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 2, 2010 at St. Isidore Parish St. Joseph Church W620 County Road G St. Cloud. Rev. Steven Kropp OFM Cap, Rev. Oliver Bambenek OFM Cap. and Rev. Peter Kutch OFM Cap. will concelebrate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 1311 Thorp Street St. Cloud on Sunday, August 1, 2010 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and at the funeral home Monday morning form 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM when brief family rites will be held at the funeral home. A prayer service will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
