Lynnwood "Butch" Cobler

Lynnwood “Butch” Cobler, age 71, of Brillion, passed away on December 29, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton.

Butch was born on June 8, 1949 in Richmond, CA, son of the late Merle Cobler and Teresa Catron Cobler.  He was a graduate of Topeka High School in Kansas, class of 1968.  Two months later, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving our country for almost 21 years, ending his enlistment at the rank of SFC as a Computer Operator.  On July 11, 1981, he married Susan Riesterer at Aberdeen Proving Grounds Army Base in Maryland.  The couple moved to Brillion after Butch’s retirement from the Army.  He then was employed at what is now Browell, Paper Converting, and then retired again from St. Vincent Hospital in 2006.  Butch and Sue were in many bowling leagues over the years.  He was a very intelligent man with a very dry sense of humor.  In his later years, he enjoyed computer war games and reading about history and science fiction.  Butch was a member of the Calumet County Disabled Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Sue of Brillion; their children: Edward (special friend Cheryl Goodwin) of Garretson, SD, Charles (special friend Theresa Thompson) of Topeka, KS, Valorie Ekvall of Sherwood, Bryan of Brillion, Linda (special friend John Henrickson) of Appleton, and Michael of Brillion; grandchildren: William “Lee,” Tanya, Tacia, Bryanna, Aslynn, and Dalilah; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; mother-in-law: Joanne Riesterer; siblings and in-laws: Patricia “Patty” (Don) Johnston of Spokane, WA, Gloria “Pauly” Buhler of Kansas City, KS, Beverly Ford-Cobler of Topeka, KS, Harold “Rick” of Topeka, KS, Nancy (Dennis) Schwalbe of Brillion, Gerald “Jerry” Duchow of Collins, Doris (Joe) Miller of Brillion, Dolores (Gregg) Berg of Valders, and Brenda (Lee) Georgenson, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law: Wilfred “Fritz” Riesterer, daughter-in-law: Wendy Marie Cobler, sister, Linda Leighty, sister-in-law: Julie Duchow, and other relatives.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the Pielhop Wieting Funeral Home in Brillion.  Military Rites will be accorded by the Becker, Bloedorn, Jensen Post 126 of Brillion.  Burial will be in King National Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday night from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  The visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated in Butch’s name for the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.
