Marvin Otto Thimmig, age 89, of New Holstein, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center where he was a patient since last Friday.
He was born April 21, 1931, in Rhine Center to Henry & Emma (Stolzmann) Thimmig. He attended Sheboygan area schools. Marvin enlisted in the US Army on November 23, 1948 and served until 1954. He spent another 21 years in the Army Reserves. Marvin retired at the rank of First Sergeant.
On September 17, 1966, he married Shirley Zimmermann at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein; they were married for 54 years.
Marvin worked at Tecumseh Engine Products in New Holstein. He retired in 1993. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as president of the congregation, was head usher at the church; serving for many years. He was a member of the New Holstein American Legion Post 124 for over 50 years; serving as the post commander and district commander.
Marvin enjoyed spending time with his family especially fishing, camping, hunting, and playing sheepshead.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; his five children, Brian Thimmig of Goldendale, WA, Carrie (Tom) Lisch of New Holstein, Sherry (Dan) Schneider of Mount Calvary, Diana Ellenbecker of Green Bay, and Scott (Jenel) Thimmig of Wrightstown; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Elaine (Bill) Birsch.
Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1702 Van Buren Street, New Holstein, WI 53061. Rev. Azor Cigelski will officiate. Marvin will be laid to rest in the Countryview Cemetery in the Town of New Holstein.
Military Rites conducted by State Military Honors and the New Holstein American Legion Post 124 will take place at the church following the service.
Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Marvin's family at the church Sunday, December 20th from 2:00 PM until 3:45 PM.
