Obituary

Mary A. (Woelfel) Bowe, age 75, of New Holstein, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, after suffering a stroke on Monday, January 9, 2023.

Mary was born March 24, 1947, in Sheboygan, to the late Martin and Marie (Schneider) Woelfel. She grew up in New Holstein, graduating from New Holstein High School in 1966. Following high school, Mary attended cosmetology school in Green Bay.

While in high school, Mary worked at the local canning factory where she met a "cute guy" from Chilton, Lenny Bowe. They began dating and eventually married on October 5, 1968, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein.

After working a few years as a hairstylist, Mary went on to work the rest of her career at the Calumet Homestead as a dietary aide where she served the residents with great care and respect and made many life-long friends.

Together, Mary and Lenny enjoyed many years of camping, golfing, and winters in Florida. They had many friends with whom they enjoyed playing cards, dominoes and taking weekend golf trips. Mary had an active social calendar, from her Bunco group, "Hooter Scooters" moped group, dinners with her "Birthday Girls" and annual beloved Sisters' Weekend. Mary showed her love for others through baking and cooking. She will be especially remembered for her family-famous dill pickles and Christmas candies and cookies.

Nothing brought Mary greater joy than time spent with her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Lenny; her two daughters, Tracy (Joe) Schwartz of Aurora, IL and Tammy (Brian) Staeden of Sussex, WI; her adored grandchildren, Owen, Noah and Emerson Schwartz and Julia and Lucas Staeden; her siblings, Audrey (Tom) Plucker of Eau Claire, Gerald (Ann) Woelfel of Green Bay, Barb (Tim) Van Akkeren of Chilton, and LoAnn (Bob) Trudell of Waukesha; her sister-in-law, Beatrice (Dean) Pingel of Chilton; her brother-in-law, Dennis (Linda) Bowe of Kiel. Mary is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Marie Woelfel; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerome and Alice Bowe, as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
