Mary Ellen (Vogel) Greuel, age 88, formerly of rural Kiel (Cedar Lake), passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018, at the Atrium Post Acute Care Center in New Holstein. Mary Ellen was born April 23, 1930, in Chilton to John & Evelyn (Schaefer) Vogel. Mary Ellen attended Chilton High School and graduated in 1948. On October 2, 1948, she married Melvin J. Greuel at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chilton. Melvin preceded her in death on June 20, 2016. In addition to being a homemaker, Mary Ellen worked at Sacred Heart Monastery and later at Singer Manufacturing. She was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Kiel and the New Holstein American Legion Auxiliary. Mary Ellen and her husband, Mel spent their winters in Florida and summers in Wisconsin where she liked to golf, play bingo and bowl. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially sheepshead. Mary Ellen is survived by her three children, Linda (Dale) Smythe of Kiel, Barbara (Wayne) Long of Hernando, FL, and Robert Greuel of West Bend; two step-granddaughters; her sisters-in-law, Millie Vogel of Chilton and Joanne Riesterer of Brillion; her brothers-in-law, Glenroy (Theresa) Greuel of Kiel and Oliver (Rita) Greuel of New Holstein. She is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, John & Evelyn Vogel; her husband, Melvin Greuel; her brother, Raymond; her sisters, Helen (Earl) Duchow, Virginia (Alfred) Greuel, Delores (Elwood) Wagner, and Dorothy (Jamon) Machut; her in-laws, Kathleen Greuel, Orville Greuel, Vivian (Harvey) Baker, and Wilfred Riesterer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 413 Fremont Street, Kiel, WI 53042. Rev. Larry Abler, OFM Cap will officiate with Deacon Bernard Knier assisting.
