Mary Jane Schmitz, age 85, of New Holstein, passed away on August 14, 2021. Mary was born October 25, 1935 in Chilton to Clarence and Josephine (Halbach) Schmitz. After attending Kiel High School, Mary was employed at Hansen Glove Factory, Lake to Lake Dairy Coop, Kohler Co., and Tecumseh Products, where she worked for over 30 years. After retiring, she volunteered her time tutoring young children learning English. Mary was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. Mary's greatest joy in life was being a Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling to many different countries and states, especially Hawaii. Mary enjoyed bowling in the Kiel and New Holstein Leagues, crafts, crossword puzzles, feeding her birds, taking walks. Mary is survived by her children: Kevin (Leslie) Fredrich of New Holstein, Cheryl (Craig) Larson of Sheboygan, Rory (Malou) Horneck of Ripon, Michele Schmitz of New Holstein, and Mike Schmitz of New Holstein; seven grandchildren: Heather (Randy) Norskog, Nicole Pfeifer, Casey Fredrich, Kerry (Kristen) Fredrich, Mason Horneck, Kya Nolan, and Anya Horneck; six great-grandchildren: Ellianna, Landon, Benjamin, Analia, Chas, Teelah, and a seventh expected soon; brothers and sisters: Shirley Wasmer, Glenroy (MarJean "Mittie") Schmitz, Marvin Schmitz, Joan (Eugene) Scholz, Carol Joas, LeRoy Schmitz, Allen (Debbie) Schmitz, and Linda Wagner; two sisters-in-law: Romilda (Millie) Schmitz, and Anna Mae Schmitz. Mary is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters: Kenneth Schmitz, Janet Schmitz, Donald Schmitz, and Gerald Schmitz; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Joseph Wasmer, Agnes Schmitz, MarJean Schmitz, William Joas, and Alan Wagner. A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison Street, New Holstein, with Rev. Carl Diederichs presiding, and Deacon Pat Knier assisting. Mary will be laid to rest at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.
