Obituary

Mary Kathleen "Katie" Guelig, 84, of rural St. Cloud, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mount Calvary. She was born October 20, 1933, in Marytown to Matt & Anna (Hansen) Weber. Katie attended grade school at St. Mary Catholic School in Marytown and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1951. On June 10, 1952, she married Joseph Guelig at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marytown. Katie and her husband, along with her family farmed in the Town of Marshfield on the Guelig Homestead all of their married life. In addition to farming, she enjoyed spending time with her family (they were the center of her life), tending to her garden and flowers. She spent many hours canning and baking. Katie loved to crochet and knit hats and afghans for her family. Katie was a member of St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church in Mount Calvary. She belonged to the Christian Women's Society, where she served as an officer for a few years. Katie is survived by her husband, Joseph I. Guelig; her children, Shirley Guelig of Fond du Lac, JoAnn (Dennis) Diaz of North Fond du Lac, Jim (Rosie) Guelig of St. Cloud, Randy Guelig of St. Cloud, Kathy Baganz of St. Cloud, and Joe (Kay) Guelig of St. Cloud; 15 grandchildren, Kim Diaz, Terri (Chris) Kuechler, Jamie Loynes, Kaylene (John) Lisowe, Tracy (Jason) Freund, Jimmy Jr. (Lauren) Guelig, Tiffany Guelig, Tyler (Heather) Guelig, Travis Guelig, Tristen Guelig, Chelsea Baganz, Isabelle Baganz, Dylan Guelig, Alexa Guelig, and Cami Guelig; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Julie Weber, Mary Alice Guelig, Stella Whitby, Theresa Keifenheim, Esther Boehnlein, Elizabeth (Leander) Ebertz, and Alex Jr. (Kathy) Guelig; very close nieces, Sylvia (Wally) Ramminger, Diane (Wayne) Muldner, and Kathy (Mike) Schmitz; very close nephews, Norman Jr. Weber (special friend, Elizabeth Wayland) and Ronnie Rach. Katie is further survived by many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, Matt & Anna Weber; her sister, Lorena (Elmer) Diefenthaler; and two brothers, Norman Sr. (Julie) Weber and Sylvester Weber; a very special niece, Delores Rach; and her in-laws, Helen Hoerth, Harold Guelig, Wilber Whitby, David Keifenheim, and David Boehnlein. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 6:30 PM on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church, 308 S. County Road W, Mount Calvary, WI 53057. Rev. Gary Wegner, OFM Cap will officiate. Katie will be laid to rest in the Holy Cross Cemetery in the spring. Gary Wegner, Sr. Jenada, Sr. Stephen, the nurses, and staff at Villa Loretto Nursing Home who cared for her especially during these past few days and the sixth floor nursing staff at St. Agnes Hospital who took care of her this past week; also to the home healthcare staff who came to her home for many years to care for her.
