Obituary

Melvin M. Diederichs, 80, of Mount Calvary died Monday February 1, 2010 at the St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac. He was born March 21, 1929 in Johnsburg to the late Albert A. & Priska Sabel Diederichs. Melvin attended St. John Grade School in Johnsburg. On August 21, 1954 he married Rita Abler at St. Cloud Catholic Church in St. Cloud; they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 2009. The couple farmed in the Town of Taycheedah before moving to Mount Calvary. Melvin was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary. Survivors include his wife, Rita of Mount Calvary; 6 children, Joseph (Lu Ann) Diederichs of Malone, Jean Brewer of Beaver Dam, Diane (Ken) Kraus of St. Cloud, William (Julie) Diederichs, John (Linda) Diederichs and Michael (Lannette) Diederichs all of Malone; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, Two brothers, Jerome (Joan) Diederichs of Fond du Lac and Gerald (Bernice) Diederichs of Malone; a sister, Edna (Donald) Nadler of Chilton; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Julitta (Elmer) Schmitz, Wilfred (Marie) Abler, Lorraine Ballwanz, Marian (Ron) Freund, Mary Abler, Donald (Diana) Abler and Kathy (Al) Kempf. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son-in-law, James Brewer; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, William & Rose Abler; a brother-in-law, Roger "Cheesy" Abler and his sister-in-law's husband, Robert Ballwanz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday February 5, 2010 at Holy Cross Catholic Church 308 County Road W Mount Calvary. Rev. Steven Kropp OFM Cap. and Rev. Larry Abler OFM Cap. will concelebrate. Entombment will be at the Shrine or Rest Chapel Mausoleum in Ledgeview Cemetery in Fond du Lac. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 1311 Thorp Street St. Cloud on Thursday February 4 from 3-8 PM and visitation will also be at the funeral home Friday morning from 9-10 AM when brief family rites will be held. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Thursday evening at 7:45 PM. A Memorial Fund will be established in his name.
