Melvin E. Schneider, age 87, of rural New Holstein "St. Anna" died Monday, November 22, 2010, at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mount Calvary.
He was born April 18, 1923, in the Town of Brothertown to the late Bruno & Clara (Freund) Schneider. Melvin attended Holy Trinity Catholic Grade School in Jericho.
On October 29, 1946, he married Dorothy Pickart at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown. He and his wife farmed in the St. Anna area in the Town of New Holstein.
Melvin was a member of St. Anna Catholic Church in St. Anna and a member of Catholic Family Life. In 1959, he won the Outstanding Young Contour Farmer Award for Calumet County. He took great pride in farming. He was a kind and gentle caring person to everyone.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of New Holstein "St. Anna"; his six children, Diane (William) Greuel of Chilton "Charlesburg", Jim (Cindy) Schneider of Fond du Lac, Larry (Shirley) Schneider of Malone, Eugene (Kay) Schneider of St. Cloud, Jane (Dan) Twohig of St. Cloud "Armstrong" and Shirley (Dale) Wagner of Malone; 20 grandchildren; 11 Great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alphonse (Ella Mae) Schneider of Malone, Frank (Ginny) Schneider of Chilton; five sisters, Germaine (Gilbert) Mand of Mount Calvary, Marcelline Gundert of Fond du Lac, Dolores (Ronald) Reinl of New Holstein, Romilda (Donald) Schmitz of New Holstein, and Evelyn (Lou) Pavlicek of Mountain Home, Arkansas and his brother-in-law, Edwin Koenigs of St. Peter.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister, Mildred Koenigs; two brothers-in-law, Marvin Muellenbach and Ralph Gundert and three sisters-in-law and their spouses, Leona Skipchak Dembowski and her first husband, Arthur Skipchak and her second husband, Steve Dembowski, Esther (Gilbert) Schneider and Frances (Francis) Schneider.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 27, 2010, at St. Anna Catholic Church N188 School Street New Holstein "St. Anna". Rev. Steven Kropp OFM Cap. will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Avenue in New Holstein on Friday, November 26th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again at the funeral home Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until 9:50 AM when brief family rites will be held at the funeral home.
A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Friday evening at 7:30 PM.
