Mercedes "Merc" H. Mullins

February 5, 1917 — December 29, 2012

Mercedes (Merc) Mullins, age 95, passed away peacefully, with her family surrounding her, on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Colony Oaks Care Center in Appleton where she had resided for the past 8 years. She was born in Manitowoc on Feb. 5, 1917, daughter of the late Paul and Mathilda (VandeVelden) Behrendt. She married Clifford Mullins on Nov. 24, 1937 in Menominee, MI. He preceded her in death on May 23, 1973. Merc had a beautiful singing voice. When she was in her teens, she, along with her sister, Elaine, sang on radio station WOMT in Manitowoc for a Childrens Hour. They did such a good job that they were hired to sing before the evening movie at the old Mikadow Theatre in Manitowoc. They teamed up with Olga Johannes and were known as The Three Bluettes . She lived in the Francis Creek area for many years, moving to Brillion in 1985. She was a member of Holy Family Parish in Brillion. She was also the best cook/baker around! Everything was from scratch! She never did learn how to cook just for herself so her family and friends benefited from that many times over. She loved her family and would do anything for them anytime. She wanted nothing for herself and was grateful for what she did have. We will miss her generous, loving and humorous spirit, even though Alzheimers took that some time ago. Survivors include her children, Paul (Joyce) Mullins, Green Bay; Pat (Don) Tisler, Kimberly; Debbie (Kevin) Gertsch, Appleton; grandchildren, Pam (Jon) Hagen, Todd Tisler(special friend Denise), Becky Gertsch (fianc Josh Nevels), Robyn (Scott) Albright; great grandchildren, Jessica (Jorge) Raasch, Laura Hagen (special friend David Wentworth) and Charlotte Albright. She is further survived by two sisters-in-law, Margaret Behrendt and Mary Claire Mullins both of Manitowoc, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Behrendt; 5 sisters and 3 brothers in law, Ione and Winifred Behrendt, Hazel (Edward) Maresch, Eleanor (Lester) Hanson, Elaine (Nic) Everard. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, Brillion. The family will receive relatives and friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Online condolences may be made www.wieting-funeralhome.com The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the staff in the dementia unit at Colony Oaks for their compassionate and loving care of Mercedes and to Kim Murray and Chaplain Mike from AseraCare Hospice for their support and guidance in the final hours. All of our love goes with you, Mercy, Mom and Grandma!!! Its just another day!!! I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only me, but to all who have longed for his appearance. 2 Timothy 4: 7,8
