Myriam “Gabrielle” Maymir (March 18, 1938 – November 22, 2019) died peacefully at home after a long battle with liver cancer. She went with no fear, to be with the Lord on November 22nd, 2019. Gabrielle was born in 1938, to Rene Herrera Fritot and Sarah Garcia de Herrera in La Havana, Cuba. She attended catholic schools in Cuba and the Dominican Republic. From 1948-1950, she accompanied her family to Dominican Republic where her father, a renowned archeologist led the excavation for their national museum at the invitation of President Rafael Trujillo. Gabrielle befriended Trujillo’s daughter Angelita, and they shared many memories that she recounted throughout her life. Gabrielle grew up in La Vivora de La Havana, Cuba and had four children: Fred, Joseph (aka Henry), Ileana, and Michael. In 1967, during the Communist Revolution in Cuba, she gave up her home, friends, and all belongings to escape communism and ensure the safety and future of her children. She migrated to the United States and established residency in Olympia Washington, before moving to Puerto Rico for a few years, and then Southern California, where she resided for more than 30 years before moving to Reedsville, Wisconsin with her daughter and family. Gabrielle's career in Photo/Type Setting changed dramatically with the introduction of IBM's Selectric technology and advanced printers in the late 70's, and later with advances in desktop publishing in the 90's on personal computers; but she re-invented herself and persevered in her chosen industry. Gabrielle had many friends and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved to spend time with her family and was a frequent flyer to Washington state and Maryland to be with them. When her children were grown, Gabrielle devoted herself to her dogs Jake and Hunter. She was a devout Christian who volunteered in the youth program at Saddleback Community Church in California, and later at Brillion Community Church. Gabrielle is preceded in death by her parents, brother Rene Herrera, sister Gema Casanas, and her beloved son Joseph Maymir, all of whom she now joins in Heaven. Gabrielle will be greatly missed by a large family and many beloved friends. Surviving Gabrielle are her children: Fred (Susan) Maymir, Myriam Ileana (Tim) Christel, and Michael (Shawna) Maymir, 15 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. A special thank you to Dr. Eclavea and Beth, Dr. Sipple, and Unity Hospice team for all your support. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Brillion Community Church, 821 Fairway Drive, Brillion WI 54110 at 1:00 pm on 12/14/2019.
