Our Dad, Paul "Iceman" Raymond Pethan, age 66, of New Holstein, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born June 10, 1955, to the late Gilbert & Lydia (Schreiner) Pethan; the youngest of six. He graduated from Hilbert High School in 1973. He went on to Western Wisconsin Technical College in LaCrosse and received his degree in HVAC. On November 8, 1980, he married Victoria Lulloff at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Kiel. Vickie preceded him in death on April 17, 2018. Dad started his HVAC career at Trio Refrigeration in Neenah. On July 1, 1983, Paul & Vickie opened Pethan's Refrigeration & Air Conditioning in New Holstein. They ran the business for several years out of their home prior to purchasing the shop located in the city of New Holstein. What started out as a "one-man shop" is currently a thriving business with five dedicated employees, including three service technicians and two office personnel, that will continue to provide service to its current and future customers. Dad was a very skilled refrigeration technician and spent a lot of time passing his knowledge on to his employees. His nickname, "Iceman", comes from his experience of working on various ice machines and understanding that no two ice cubes are the same. It didn't matter where he was, he always needed to know what make/model of ice maker was providing the essential ingredient for his Old Fashioned. Dad loved people. He always had a lot of friends and many of those friendships have continued through the years. There were countless gatherings, whether at his garage or the cabin Up North, where many good times were had. Being that summer was a busy time with his business, he took the opportunity in winter to spend more time with family & friends, most often snowmobiling. However, during the summer, he made sure his family was entertained. Many memories were made in the backyard; coming home between calls to stoke the pool heater and to throw a handful of coins in for the kids to dive for. He also loved setting up a "Wet Banana". We can just see him slapping his leg, throwing his head back, laughing, as he watched everyone try to get back up that slippery, Dawn-doused hill. Dad was passionate about guns and various activities including high power riffle, trap shooting, hunting and target practice in the backyard. Dad was a proud man, but not in a boastful or arrogant manner. Everyone knew he was proud. Proud of his "class-act" wife. Proud of his daughters. Proud of his "sons". Proud of his "little people". Proud to show anyone his garage, his latest woodworking project, take them on a "Rosie" ride, or grill them the best steak they'd ever had. He loved doing things for others and called it his "labor of love", but you damn well knew he expected help in return. Everyone who knew Dad knew he was a preacher. He wanted so much to help others and that was one way he showed his love. It wasn't until recently that we could see so clearly what Dad's greatest lessons for us were all along; love big, give generously and see the good in everyone. We see your goodness, Dad. He was always concerned if he was doing a good job for us kids after Mom left. Yes, Dad, you done good. Survivors include his two daughters, Martina Leigh (Matt) Stevens of West Bend and their children, Vela Marie and Vincent Michael Stevens, Kristin Marie (Jesse) Schneider of St. Cloud and their children, Graci Sophia, Adelie Rae, and Jovie Rose Schneider; his brothers & sister, Merlin (Deannie) Pethan, Mary (Stan) Genslak, Joe (Debbie) Pethan, and Roger Pethan; his brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, John Lulloff, Jim (Ramona) Lulloff, Joan (Ron) Staats, Dina (Dick) Hersey, Charlie (Kathy) Lulloff, Mary (Russell) Bonde, Jean Lulloff (David Scroggins), Daniel Lulloff (Patrick Uselding), David Lulloff (Cody Grizzoffi), Jill (Robert) Rutten, and Peggy Smith (Matt Grohskopf). He is further survived by Panda Pavlat, his sweetie; numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives, and many friends. Preceding him in death were his wife, Victoria; his parents, Gilbert & Lydia Pethan; his brother, Gene (Charlotte) Pethan; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Roman & Joyce Lulloff; his sisters-in-law, Diane Lulloff and Susie Lulloff; and his brother-in-law, Paul Lulloff. A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison Street, New Holstein, WI 53061. Paul will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Holy Rosary Cemetery following the Mass. Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Paul's family at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue, New Holstein, WI on Friday, February 25th from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and visitation will also be at the funeral home Saturday morning, February 26th from 9:00 AM until 10:15 AM. We would like to express our heart-felt appreciation to our family and friends that have given their love, support and prayers during the past couple weeks.
