Obituary

Peter L. Hau Sr. age 88, formerly of Stockbridge, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Care Partners Assisted Living in Appleton where he resided for the past 4 ½ years.

He was born November 21, 1937, in the Town of Marshfield to Albert & Marjorie (Knaus) Hau.

Peter attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School in Marytown and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1955.

On April 11, 1959, he married Carol M. Schmitz at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Peter. On July 10, 2004, he married Lois (Clark) Hardrath. Lois preceded him in death on September 6, 2020.

Peter started his working career at the family farm and continued working at other farms his entire life. He also worked at Kohler & Tecumseh Engine, owned his own milk can route, and worked for the majority of his lifetime in carpentry, construction, and agricultural equipment servicing. He retired from L&L Sales and Service. In addition, he bartended part time at several area taverns.

He was an avid bowler, loved to fish, and camped with his wife, Lois, at Three Lakes Campground, and tended to his large garden. Peter coached his children in 4-H baseball. He had a love for fish fry dinners, John Deere Tractors and the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include his children, Peter Jr. (Marge) Hau of Johnson Creek, Paul (Traci) Hau of Glenbeulah, Christine (Chuck) Broeren of Menasha, Charlene Hau of Appleton, Connie (Dan) Hietpas of Little Chute, Patrick (Andrea) Hau of Green Bay, and Phillip (Sue) Hau of Appleton; the mother of his children, Carol Schmitz of Appleton; his "special" daughter, Deidria Ellington of TX; six grandchildren, Ashley Martin (special friend, Christian), Heather (Kyle) Mattson, Brandon Hietpas, Rachel Hau, Izabell Hau, and Andrew Hau; a great-grandson, William James; his brothers & sisters, Michael Hau, Sr. Mary Hau O.S.F., Kay Urfer, and Dori Plautz (special friend, Mark); his sister-in-law, Darlene Hau; his brother-in-law, Gordon Birschbach; step children; many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends, especially the ones at Care Partners.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Lois; his parents, Albert & Marjorie Hau; his daughters, Cheryl Hau and Elizabeth Hau; two sons-in-law, Tim Nadler & Terry Martin; Elizabeth Hau's mother, Gertrude Hau; his brothers, William (Virginia) Hau and John Hau; his sisters, Barbara Birschbach and Ann Hau; his in-laws, Patricia Hau, Robert Urfer, and Barry Plautz; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Avenue, New Holstein, WI 53061.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Peter's family at the Sippel Funeral Home in New Holstein on Wednesday, January 28th from 2:00 PM until 5:45 PM.

Peter's family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff at Care Partner's Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice for taking wonderful care of him.

A memorial fund will be established in his name.
