Peter "Pete" L. Winkel, age 90, of rural New Holstein "Marytown", passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the Homestead Health Services in New Holstein.
He was born March 11, 1935, to Arnold & Alma (Casper) Winkel. Pete attended grade school at St. Mary's Catholic School in Marytown and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1953.
Pete served in the Army from May 1, 1957, until April 14, 1959. On November 7, 1959, he married Lorraine Watry at St. Ann Catholic Church in St. Anna.
Pete was employed with the Kohler Co. for almost 44 years. He retired in 1997.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-St. Mary's Site. He mowed the lawn at the church for 60+ years. Pete was also a member of the Marytown Veteran's Club, the Marytown Athletic Club; where he played as well as coached the AC's team.
Pete and Lorraine attended many polka dances; distance nor weather conditions were not an issue.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Lorraine; his seven children, David

Will, Kevin (Tricia) Winkel, Jean (Dan) Drewieske; grandchildren, Shelby, Shayne, Trent, Emily,
Samantha, Noah, Stephanie, Brady, Blake, Baker, Lauren, Joshua, Hailey, Zachary, Jeffrey, Abigail, Chloe, Brandon, and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Levi, Atley, Harlem, Harper, and Emerson; his sisters, Sr. Jovita Winkel C.S.A., Audry Heus, and Sr. Marilyn Winkel C.S.A.; his sisters-in-law, Millie Vogel, Bernie Halbach, Pat Rieder, and Joanne Thome. He is further survived by numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Arnold & Alma Winkel; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Isadore & Magdaline Watry; his in-laws, Roger Heus, Lucille (Edward) Halbach, Clarence Watry, Leona (Robert) Ortlieb, Angeline (Henry) Schuh, Raymond Vogel, Jerome
(Jackie) Watry, Dolores (James) Halbach, Edmund Halbach, Paul Rieder, and "Moose" Thome.
A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at our Lady of the Holyland Parish-St. Mary's Site in Marytown, (N10232 County Road G, New Holstein, WI 53061). Rev. Paul Koenig, OFM Cap will officiate.
Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Pete's family at the church in Marytown on Thursday, July 10th from 2:30 PM until 5:30 PM.
Pete's family expresses their sincere gratitude to the staff at Calumet County Hospice (especially Kim & Linda), staff at the Homestead Health Services, and the many visitors that took the time out of their day to come visit him over the years. "God bless all of you".
