Peter P. Salm, 78, of New Holstein died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 10, 2011.
He was born June 28, 1932 in the Town of New Holstein to the late Joseph & Amelia (Pitz) Salm. Peter attended G.G. Meade School in rural New Holstein, Holy Rosary Grade School and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1950.
On April 8, 1961, he married Lillian Meyer at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. Peter had worked at Lake to Lake in Kiel in his early years and then farmed in the Town of New Holstein. During his retirement years he worked at Walmart in Chilton for 10 years.
Peter was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein where he also had served on the parish council, a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, Holy Name Society, Catholic Financial Life, Senior Citizens and served as a Calumet County Board Supervisor for 10 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian, of New Holstein; his four children, Ann (Bill) Loehrke of Appleton, Annette Salm (Penny Guptill) of Appleton, Paul (Cathy) Salm of Bloomer, WI and Al Salm and his wife, Paula Rojo-Vega of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren, Jospeh, Matthew, John, and Lucas; his brother, Robert (Katherine) Salm of Woodbridge, VA; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Salm of Dallas, TX and Katherine Salm of Oshkosh.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Jerome, Joseph, and Alfred and three sisters, Sr. Boniface, Theresa Piper, and Rosalind Smerling.
Family and friends may call at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church 1724 Madison Street in New Holstein on Friday, May 13, 2011 from 2:00-5:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow. Rev. Harold Berryman will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Peter's family extends their heart felt appreciation to the New Holstein First Responders, the Kiel Ambulance Service, and to the doctors and staff at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton for all their help.
